Eddie Murphy not getting SAG nomination hurts his chances on Comedy Actor win?

That’s what I’m scared of 🙁 I’m starting to be afraid that they may pick the “safe” option and go with DiCaprio or Egerton for the win instead.

    Drama: Irishman
Comedy: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Rationale: like the Oscars, screenplay and director nominations are the most important. Bohemian Rhapsody and Les Miserables are the only movies in the last decade that won best drama or comedy without a nomination in either. Screenplay misses make sense for musical movies and BoRap’s Director is obviously controversial.

In drama, all five films this year have either screenplay or director. Director is the more important nomination historically, with only BoRap missing director in the 2010s. This bodes well for 1917, The Irishman, and Joker and eliminates Marriage Story and Two Popes for me as neither director is controversial. Of those three remaining films, only The Irishman has both screenplay and director which the winner of drama has had 7/9 times the last decade. Excluding BoRap, The Revenant is the only drama film that had only Director but not screenplay. That bodes well for 1917 which should be your number 2.

In comedy, the director and screenplay overlap is less strong with 5/9 winners having both nominations. Unlike Drama, Screenplay is more important Director for Comedy winners with 7 out of 9 films having a screenplay nom. OUATIH is the only comedy film to have a screenplay nomination this year AND it also has a director nomination. That makes it a default number one. Jojo is second as a gut check.

Top 3 Films of the Year: Parasite, The Farewell, OUATIH

Eddie Murphy not getting SAG nomination hurts his chances on Comedy Actor win?

Probably. Its just too easy to name check Leo.

Egerton is winning. He’s been winning since the moment he and Elton started dining with HFPA members couple of months ago. Also he deserves it the most out of that lineup.
With today’s SAG snub HFPA members don’t have to feel obliged to award Awkwafina anymore. They’ll will go with the newest it girl Ana de Armas.

Knives Out was snubbed at SAG too and people actually expected that to hit ensemble.

Interesting. This makes sense considering how much they love that movie. They will want to give it something.

HFPA has given Ricky Gervais many things to diss on Golden Globes already.

    -Robert De Niro snub
-No Woman nominee in Best Director

He already had many things to roast this year etc Irishman Bad CGI,all the feets in OUATIH.

Will be easily my favorite part of the evening after Joaquin Phoenix’s BA win.
