I think Sam Levinson is being nominated for Director here. The HFPA loves a director who had a challenge (as evidenced by Ridley Scott’s nomination for ATMITW), and filming an entire movie during a global pandemic sure is a hell of a challenge. I’m not currently expecting Levinson to get in anywhere else, and I’m not yet predicting M&M in Picture (though I am getting close). However, the narrative around his film seems like something the the Globes won’t be able to resist.

I think the Globes go for Clooney over someone like Levinson or Murphy.

Have a great day if you see this!

Saw Happiest Season…it’s not great but with the comedy categories being dead as usual they should push MacKenzie Davis instead of KStew. She’s got a couple emotional monologue scenes that could justify a breakout nod if The Prom is a flop.

The path ends at the globes though.

FYC: Riz Ahmed + Paul Raci (Sound of Metal)
Sidney Flanigan (Never Rarely Sometimes Always)

I’m mulling between Happiest Season, Palm Springs and Emma for my last slot in Picture and Pfeiffer, Stewart and Taylor-Joy in Actress.

I feel quite confident in a lineup of Borat 2On the RocksThe PromPromising Young Woman in Picture and Jones, Mulligan, Streep and Wood in Actress.

FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"

I think Palm Springs has got to be in. It feels like the first “quarantine movie” that everybody saw.

I don’t know. I think Samberg is in but I’m not sure about Miloti and the rest of the film.

If The Prom flops I’ll put it in my predictions in a heartbeat.

i don’t know why they would do that considering kristen is the bigger lead, the bigger name and gives the better and more acclaimed performance

The problem with Happiest Season is it’s a holiday movie. I can see its buzz fading out in two months quickly (which isn’t going to be a problem for films like The PromPromising Young Woman and even Borat 2).

I have it getting in 4 noms here (Picture, Actor, Actress and Screenplay). Think it’s gonna have a Knives Out-esque awards run that will result in a Screenplay (and possibly Editing) at Oscar.

I liked the movie a lot, but screenplay would be a huge surprise. Given how erratic that category seems to be at the globes, though…maybe. I’m not predicting it but it would be fun.
