But Knives Out peaked at the perfect time (voting) and did great box office. Palm Springs was released in July in an extended year and can’t rely on box office word-of-mouth. I can see Samberg at the Globes but not much else.
Have a great day if you see this!

Palm Springs over The Prom in every category. The Prom will clearly stink!
November 29, 2020 at 4:40 pm #1203883195Carey Mulligan reading that people think Meryl is going to win the Globe over her…

The way Hamilton could easily get both LMM and Odom Jr whenever Disney decides it’s eligible.

And Cohen has basically no competition.
John's Best of 2020

Best Original Screenplay: Soul
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Midnight SkyNovember 30, 2020 at 7:37 am #1203884420And Cohen has basically no competition.
There’s also Murray, but aside from that, there’s really no one. Granted, Samberg is actually very deserving, but he, his film, and Millioti would all be lucky to get in most other years.

The Prom will definitely do better here than Palm Springs. And this is the HFPA. They love to reward trash. (Not that the former is trash – I haven’t seen it. But you get my point).

Just look at Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, and 1917.
November 30, 2020 at 3:02 pm #1203885521For Supporting Actress, for some reason my brain latched onto the thought of Kidman winning- but then I decided that ain’t happening because I cannot see the Prom getting her an Oscar nom and this category’s winner is always in the Oscar line up. So I’m guessing she gets a nom here, and is replaced by Burstyn in the final match.
Can’t decide between Ronan and Youn for the last spot here. The HFPA was more receptive to The Farewell overall last year, and I feel like that’s a good gauge for how Minari’s going to do (in terms of A24’s campaigning abilities).

November 30, 2020 at 3:11 pm #1203885530Kidman can win and in likelihood will win for The Undoing. There’s really no reason for the HFPA to go full 08 Winslet on her.
