lol imagine not predicting one night in miami
It feels like a Hidden Figures to me (and not just because of the black cast). Lower-half Picture contender with a buzzy hot-name supporting contender that does well at SAG because of a very strong ensemble, eventually making it in the final Picture lineup because of the bigger field, its popularity among actors, and strength in adapted screenplay.
December 22, 2020 at 9:48 pm #1203941196True, he too had buzz. He’s brilliant in Hamilton
Anyway, going along with Goldsberry having an off day, I actually thought she was pretty much the same when I had watched the show before. Both great performances, but her voice, while beautiful sounded like it was being pushed to its limit, particularly on the high notes.
Both she and Miranda sounded noticeably better on the cast album, though her singing is miles ahead of his. Anyway, any vocal troubles they might’ve had were perfectly acceptable given the excellent performances they were giving.
December 22, 2020 at 9:51 pm #1203941202Poor Carey Mulligan, now she won’t win the Globe and will subsequently be lucky to be considered a spoiler. As if the Drama Actress line-up wasn’t strong enough with two of the biggest frontrunners being there.

December 22, 2020 at 10:54 pm #1203941253I clearly have a lot of rage this year but this Hamilton thing really pisses me off. Like it’s insulting to even suggest it’s a film.

Yeah, there’s definitely so much merit in the work but I think the film doesn’t capture it for what it’s worth because of the constant closeups. We hardly ever see the full stage and robs the viewer of the full experience.
FYC: Michaela Coel and Rosamund Pike

December 22, 2020 at 11:58 pm #1203941304Hamilton being eligible is lunacy. Idiocy. Tomfoolery. Doesn’t the HFPA know they’re already considered a laughing stock? This is ridiculous.

December 23, 2020 at 12:24 am #1203941318If I screen episode 5 of The Flight Attendant in theatres for two weeks could it be nominated for best comedy/musical in the film category? Hamilton being deemed film is so stupid and embarrassing, hopefully it doesnt get in anywhere.

Everyone’s fighting to get one because millions of people will watch them win it; a huge boost to anyone’s career. It’s not because they have any prestige and you’d know that if you’d been here for more than 5 seconds.

They are a laughing stock, you’re delusional!
December 23, 2020 at 1:11 am #1203941392So now I know why I Hate Suzie was ineligible in TV Comedy! They want to give Billie Piper the Comedy Film Actress award over Meryl Streep and Maria Bakalova!
And to think we thought Small Axe being on those top 10 lists was bad.
FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"
December 23, 2020 at 1:14 am #1203941394Congrats Maria Baklova!
And Hamilton being eligible here is very much correct.
