May as well go all in and give it another Song and Sup Actor nomination.

Some praise for Regina King and One Night in Miami by a HFPA member.

Also to note almost every HFPA member’s feed I’ve seen has some sort of praise towards Borat and Sacha Baron Cohen in both Borat and Chicago 7.

That’s why I think Borat is winning Best Comedy/Musical Film and Best Comedy/Musical Actress and SBC is winning Supporting Actor (ugh)

My big question is will they nominate borat for more than the comedy categories. Could it sneak into song or score (Two categories that are kinda emptyish)?

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Streep is probably the best thing about the Prom and that’s not really saying much.</p>

Can someone explain to me why Ma Rainey and ONIM are being so frequently predicted in drama film? I checked, and they rarely nominate movies based on plays in that category — unless I overlooked something. Both movies are also very stage-y. I think that if an adaptation makes it, then The Father.

I agree about The Father and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. I have One Night in Miami… because the Globes responded better than any other group to If Beale Street Could Talk and their trajectories have been curiously similar. Both were TIFF runner-up and got in the mid-80s on Metacritic, suggesting that they were crowd-pleasing critics’ picks, but they flopped at awards and rated low 7s on IMDb. They are also adaptations with Regina King set around the same time in America. It also helps to have a celebrity director. Remember when they loved The Ides of March, which had no traction the rest of the season? One Night in Miami… has admittedly been faring worse than If Beale Street Could Talk by most metrics and this is a weaker year.

Oh!  They nominated The Two Popes just last year!  Outside of flashbacks and an insanely-edited prologue, that movie was just two guys sitting around and talking.

I completely forgot that it was based on a play! Thanks! I still can’t motivate myself to slot in either one of Ma Rainey’s or ONIM; it’s just too stacked. Nomadland & Trial of the Chicago 7 are locks; The Father supposedly played extraordinarily well with them; Da 5 Bloods will prob get in even if just due to Spike’s kids; and I still have Mank in. I also think Hillbilly could spoil.
