Given how the HFPA is in complete shambles after so many controversies, what do you think the future of the Golden Globes looks like? Will they still be important for publicity? Will they not matter and have people continue to distance themselves?
What is the future of this precursor?
ReplyApril 21, 2021 at 4:01 pm #1204214035I say kill it. They’re too stupid with their TV category choices.
ReplyCopy URLApril 21, 2021 at 5:54 pm #1204214155I don’t even get why they are the end-all/be-all. There’s too many issues with them, both morally and logistically.
Critic’s Choice should start things off.

April 21, 2021 at 6:15 pm #1204214173hopefully they get rid of them and they get rid of critics choice while they are at it.

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.
April 21, 2021 at 8:01 pm #1204214310Hopefully it’s the end, and the televised event will be permanently canceled starting from next year.
It’s a shady organization no one among the film industry really likes, and definitely overstayed its welcome for way too much time.

They often influenced the Oscar race in a negative way with their crappy and questionable choices by picking as winners undeserving mediocre movies (i’m looking at you Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, and 1917!!, just to name a few in recent years).
It’s over, it’s time to end this farce of an organization.April 21, 2021 at 8:09 pm #1204214325I don’t care but I do like their Drama / Comedy division. It’s nice to know that because of that actors like Angela Bassett, Akwafina, Isabelle Huppert or Taron Egerton have been recognized over the years.
ReplyCopy URLApril 21, 2021 at 8:40 pm #1204214363A bunch of celebrities getting drunk and having a good time on stage is fun, but the Awards themselves are fucking awful. I’d personally be happy if it just disappeared, the fewer awards shows there are makes the Oscars more interesting, and that’s ultimately all I really care about.

And how a group of 90 people can influence on the Oscars? They just vote for what they like and sometimes the Academy alienate with them but not all the time and definitely not this year.
ReplyCopy URLApril 21, 2021 at 9:49 pm #1204214411Honestly they will be just fine and we all know it
They’ll bounce back as always, they shouldn’t, but they will.For a organization like that to fall to pieces it would be needed to celebrities stop appearing and that I doubt it will happen.

"Succession" and "Severance" in all Drama categories;
"Ted Lasso" and "The Great" in all Comedy categories;
"Station Eleven" and "The White Lotus" in all Limited categories + Ethan Hawke for "Moon Knight".April 21, 2021 at 11:35 pm #1204214457It’s popular to dump on the Globes because of their sketchy history but it’s one of the few major precursors that acknowledges Comedies or Musicals.
They need to invite a more diverse crop of journalists into their institution so the playing field for POC is more evenly represented.
