Given how the HFPA is in complete shambles after so many controversies, what do you think the future of the Golden Globes looks like? Will they still be important for publicity? Will they not matter and have people continue to distance themselves?
What is the future of this precursor?April 21, 2021 at 4:01 pm #1204214035
I say kill it. They’re too stupid with their TV category choices.April 21, 2021 at 5:54 pm #1204214155
I don’t even get why they are the end-all/be-all. There’s too many issues with them, both morally and logistically.
Critic’s Choice should start things off.
Movie-lover overall.April 21, 2021 at 6:15 pm #1204214173
hopefully they get rid of them and they get rid of critics choice while they are at it.April 21, 2021 at 6:16 pm #1204214175
Just keep the precursors to BAFTA and SAG pls.
FYC Emmys: "The Crown" in all categories, "I May Destroy You" in all categories, "It's a Sin" in all categories, "Small Axe" in all categories, Billie Piper ("I Hate Suzie"), Yvonne Strahovski ("Stateless") and Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials")April 21, 2021 at 6:56 pm #1204214207
Couldn’t care lessApril 21, 2021 at 8:01 pm #1204214310
Hopefully it’s the end, and the televised event will be permanently canceled starting from next year.
It’s a shady organization no one among the film industry really likes, and definitely overstayed its welcome for way too much time.
They often influenced the Oscar race in a negative way with their crappy and questionable choices by picking as winners undeserving mediocre movies (i’m looking at you Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, and 1917!!, just to name a few in recent years).
It’s over, it’s time to end this farce of an organization.April 21, 2021 at 8:09 pm #1204214325
I don’t care but I do like their Drama / Comedy division. It’s nice to know that because of that actors like Angela Bassett, Akwafina, Isabelle Huppert or Taron Egerton have been recognized over the years.April 21, 2021 at 8:40 pm #1204214363
A bunch of celebrities getting drunk and having a good time on stage is fun, but the Awards themselves are fucking awful. I’d personally be happy if it just disappeared, the fewer awards shows there are makes the Oscars more interesting, and that’s ultimately all I really care about.April 21, 2021 at 9:31 pm #1204214399
They were basically banished from network TV for most of the 80s and 90s, too many times when the award was thought to have been bought especially when a nobody named Pia Zadora had her husband wine and dine the members at his Las Vegas Hotel and then she was named new star of the year for some soft core porn type film beating out Kathleen Turner and Elizabeth McGovern.
There was a really good documentary a few years ago about all their scandals. I’ve never been able to find it online. NBC must have had it scrubbed.April 21, 2021 at 9:43 pm #1204214407
They’re a good show, specially when you have a host like Ricky Gervais, that’s comedy gold, nobody cares about the awards except for the winners like Ricky said. And how a group of 90 people can influence on the Oscars? They just vote for what they like and sometimes the Academy alienate with them but not all the time and definitely not this year.April 21, 2021 at 9:49 pm #1204214411
Honestly they will be just fine and we all know it
They’ll bounce back as always, they shouldn’t, but they will.
For a organization like that to fall to pieces it would be needed to celebrities stop appearing and that I doubt it will happen.
For Your Emmy Consideration:
Matthew Rhys for "Perry Mason" as Leading Actor in a Drama Series
Ethan Hawke for "The Good Lord Bird" as Leading Actor in a Limited Series, THE GOOD LORD BIRD in ALL CATEGORIES.
Elizabeth Olsen and Kathryn Hahn for "Wandavision" as Leading and Supporting actress in Limited Series
Tobias Menzies for "The Crown" as Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
MJ Rodriguez for "Pose" as Leading Actress in a Drama Series.April 21, 2021 at 11:35 pm #1204214457
It’s popular to dump on the Globes because of their sketchy history but it’s one of the few major precursors that acknowledges Comedies or Musicals.
They need to invite a more diverse crop of journalists into their institution so the playing field for POC is more evenly represented.
