They were basically banished from network TV for most of the 80s and 90s, too many times when the award was thought to have been bought especially when a nobody named Pia Zadora had her husband wined and dined the members at his Las Vegas Hotel and then she was named new star of the year for some soft core porn type film beating out Kathleen Turner and Elizabeth McGovern.
There was a really good documentary a few years ago about all their scandals. I’ve never been able to find it online. NBC must have had it scrubbed.
The documentary is Golden Globes : Hollywood’s dirty little secret, I’ve seen it back then on TV, 2003 I think.
ReplyCopy URLApril 22, 2021 at 6:08 am #1204214779They should redo the entire membership from a bunch of elitist nobodies with no idea of journalism or films to an actual voting body of respected journalists from all over the world. More diverse and a lot more members than 89 or whatever joke number they are rn.
The current membership is way too easily buyable there is no other reason why „Music“ would show up lmao. The show itself is pretty fun with the right host and as someone previously said I like their split of musical/comedy and drama even though some of the placements are… odd to say the least.

April 23, 2021 at 1:40 am #1204216595They are worse than nobodies having a wank. They are corrupt, unethical and probably criminal nobodies having a wank. The whole thing needs to be shut down. But it won’t be; the studios love it.

Satellite would gladly step in as they clearly try to be the “better HFPA” with their choices.

Lol.
LOL the same studio that invited several HFPA members to a luxury set visit of Emily in Paris just to buy nominations.
It’s funny to see liberal Hollywood pretending they didn’t know anything about the HFPA.

lol that Times Up campaign really made a good effort on deviating the focus from what the article originally denounced HFPA of doing. They should just end cause their purpose is useless and perpetuates big studios to waste tons of money campaigning for their publicity spot. Diversity is certainly the least of their problems.

Let’s see if any big movie studio backs away from the Globes. That being said we may be witnessing the downfall of the Golden Globes live. Let’s celebrate to that.

I believe it was Paramount, not Netflix, that paid for those trips. Netflix acquired the show from Paramount last year after it had already been shot, if my memory serves me correct.
