Did people just forget that quite a number of the winners last Golden Globes were people of colour?

I am sorry for my past behaviour. I am sorry for being a turd. I would like to try and be better.

So I guess SAG is the second most important award show now??
Or the Critics Choice will be picked up by NBC or CBS???
Or will the AFI be televised instead ???

    What happens next??

Oh wow. I wonder if they’ll be back in 2023? They should do this time to reform the organization. Change the membership instead of 90 journalists that no one knows.

If they won’t be back then, well…

Yep. And a black actress that won lead.

Exactly. If every single winner last year was white, then I would get it, but Chadwick, Andra, Daniel, Jon Batiste, Chloe Zhao, Lee Isaac Chung and John Boyega is quite a few minorities who won awards.

The Golden Globes were always weird because their voters were nobodies. They were not pros like the voters of the Oscars. In that sense, the Golden Globes were like the Razzies

And yet, there’s still work to be done. All of the Minari cast being snubbed? Minari being deduced to the Foreign Language Film category? When They See Us being completely shut out a few years ago? I May Destroy You being completely snubbed? Not to mention the bribes and fancy trips and perks and scandalous controversies. Oh, and the not having any Black members in their organization. Any.

They’re not off the hook just because they awarded a Black actress the Lead Actress – Drama Globe (which, by the way, is the second time they’ve done that since 1985, so they don’t exactly deserve a pat on the back since Andra Day and Whoopi Goldberg are the only POC winners in this category ever).

Also, that isn’t a lot compared to the over a dozen of white winners this time around. There’s still room to improve and hopefully this cancellation gives them room to do better.

Maybe the reason why they snubbed all those choices is because… they thought that the nominees did a better job in the acting categories. Steven Yeun et. al. in Minari were awesome but again art is subjective and maybe they felt that Riz, Chadwick, Anthony, Gary and Tahir just simply had better performances than him. I agree that Minari only having the one nomination is criminal though as that was the best film of 2020.

Maybe they just did not really like When They See Us or I May Destroy You all that much in comparison to the other nominees.

While I understand the Yeun snub to some extent, the Youn snub was completely egregious. When was the last time the Oscar winner of Supporting Actress was not nominated at the Globes? Marcia Gay Harden? Thats a whole 2 decades ago and the Asian foreign language nature of Youn’s performance played a large role in her snub imo . I mean Youn won at BAFTA and Minari didn’t even win foreign film there. No reason for Youn to not be nominated at the Globes. And Midnight Sky Best Score Globe nomination over Minari is weird.

    Michelle Williams Oscar campaign manager.

So let’s just force them to vote on someone even though they their own preferences. Every human being on the planet is bias.

What is this rubbish argument? The Globes were not biased, they were corrupt. They nominated shows and movies by the studios that gave them the most expensive vacations and parties. That is not “bias”, it is all but bribery. And all for the opinions of a tiny group of unknown people who have nothing to do with filmmaking.

    FYC:

Best Director - Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Darius Marder (Sound of Metal)

Lead Actor - Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods), Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal)

Supporting Actor - Paul Raci (Sound of Metal)

Supporting Actress - Youn Yuh-jung (Minari)

I’m honestly of two opinions of this. About time HFPA is held accountable in a meaningful way for their open secrets. And all of these people patting themselves on their backs and on their high horses calling them out while participating and benefiting off of the open secret is comical and infuriating. I don’t loop Ava and Shonda in this bc it just hit me that the latter is a previous winner and is behind a hit show and wasn’t even invited to play the game (the coveted press conference) says everything you need to know. After a chaotic awards season, I’m ready for more unexpected mess with this upcoming one.

Forgive me for saying this, but with an organization with absolutely zero Black members in it, I feel it’s a little more than them just not “liking” When They See Us.

Also, I agree that the complete snub of Youn Yuh-jung was despicable. She was the best supporting actress performance this year (the Oscars, SAG, and BAFTA confirming that as such) and the Globes disregarding her performance looked horrible on their part, especially when we consider how overlooked Asian actors already are.

This is true. That Youn snub was deliberate and the way they did that because of the Minari backlash… then they went ahead and gave it best Foreign Language Film. Just disgusting that they could’ve (in a normal year I guess) stopped any momentum that Youn could’ve had.

I don’t know if it was “deliberate” per se. Maybe they just felt the other five nominees had better performances.

This. The Globes are the only film awards, besides the Oscars, that actually make money and people actually watch. That’s why they been getting away with stuff for so many years and that’s why I still don’t believe in their definitive death.

If Critics Choice or SAG want to take their place there must be a huge investment from these groups that probably won’t pay off. Next award season is going to be weird… once again lol
