Pretty much no major publications were live tweeting these nominations, and most largely ignored them outside of an article or two posted on a delay, or in some cases writing about the turmoil within the HFPA without even listing nominees. If the press isn’t giving GGs attention, I kind of doubt that voters will either. I guess we’ll see what the difference in coverage is when Critics Choice announces shortly.

Given the expected lack of attention paid to nominees and winners, I don’t know that there is much to say in reaction to who was or was not nominated. You could see them doing the work and walking the walk in some categories (Best Actor – Drama, the “Encanto” and “Parallel Mothers” score nominations, Maggie Gyllenhaal — and by extension, two women — in Director), but it’s hard to decipher what of this is a direct reaction to diversifying their nomination field and what is usual Globes left field choices as per usual. All of that being said, I don’t know what impact this has on the season, and it doesn’t seem like much if the initial reaction is anything to go off of, but this is still some kind of a precursor. Given the many issues I’ve had with Critics Choice in the past, I honestly can’t say which organization will hold more weight this year, but if those nominations land a bit more coverage this afternoon, we should at least see where media companies will be focusing their attention and that should give a solid idea of how things are going to square up come January.

17.6k tweets mentioning Golden Globes, third highest trend in the United States, some nominees trending. And I’ve seen the trades post the nominees?

Yeah, but compared to previous years’ coverage of tweeting out category by category and doing extensive follow-up articles, the coverage this morning has been extremely muted. Maybe that’s just my timeline, but there was undoubtedly a difference between how these nominations were covered in years past from my perspective.

Definitely lesser than previous years I completely agree. But I’m not sure about extremely muted. My TL was still full of Globes stuff and is still is right now. Maybe it’s a thing that a lot of sites waited to see if they’d do anything stupid before publicising the nominations.

The nominations were on the front page of the BBC’s site.

FYC: Better Call Saul and The Good Fight in all categories including Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

What I’m finding really depressing is that I think these nominations have really revealed how much many of those who have been most vocal in leading the necessary charge against the HFPA this year actually don’t really care about diversity at all. Like I’ve actually seen tweets saying things like “Mitchells v. Machines being snubbed whilst winning all the Critics awards is proof that the Globes are still broken”. Um what? It’s like all certain people have really cared about is turning the Globes into some high-brow show of FilmTwitter taste and have just been using the diversity issue as a platform to either do just that or get them off the air entirely. It’s gross. And it’s completely damaging to the actual crucial cause of getting groups like the HFPA to do better.

that’s because everyone’s afraid to speak on it. Even Collider tweeted that they weren’t covering the GGs until there was change. Celebs won’t speak out bc they know will get attacked. Its fcking ridiculous. Getting hounded into silence by a bunch of idiots on twitter sitting on their ass all day.

Some notable inclusions and exclusions like every year, but yeah, too fast, too soon, Golden Globes. They might have added new and diverse members, but the same racist and sexist old guard members are still there too, soooo. The “change” has to continue past a single awards cycle, and it’s not a convincing move just to scramble some quick attention to stay in the game. Oh wells.

    Snoop Dogg was something lol

Nominations were NOT bad………….Kinda surprised Jennifer Hudson didn’t get nominated for Respect!  All the Best Actress drama nominees are WHITE……..What is going on?

Happy to see Mahershala Ali nominated, I really need to see Swan Song.  Need to see The Power of the Dog……….I don’t know, I have a feeling the only award it will win is Jane Campion for Best Director and possibly Kodi Smit-McPhee for Supporting Actor if Troy Kotsur doesn’t win.  We might get surprise/upset winners next month.  I still don’t think Benedict will win Best Actor.  I still have Will Smith winning and maybe Denzel Washington MIGHT pull a surprise win.  He wasn’t won the Globes in 22 years……..will see The Tragedy of MacBeth when it gets released.  Also need to see CODA and maybe Licorice Pizza.

Best Actor Drama and Supporting Actress nominations are the most diverse I’ve seen!

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Maggie Gyllenhaal is such an odd choice. Maybe Lost Daughter is really that good but they obviously nominated her because of their long running hatred of PTA</p>

Why is it that we can’t predict the Golden Globes?

I’ve tried to tweet and ask and still haven’t gotten an answer. They are not even reporting on the Globes at all. I’m going to assume its some play to make sure all the studios remain happy

Should I be that surprised that Sing 2 didn’t get an Animated Film nomination? Could the fact that it hasn’t been released yet have something to do with it?
