So I am aware that we have only just had the 72nd Golden Globe Awards but why not start discussing and predicting for next year. Some people might think that it is way too early to start this thread but in my opinion it’s never too early. Also I enjoy looking back at this thread in December just to see how wrong (or right) we were. So let the prediciting and discussion begin.

Could be an interesting year, I think I will add Saoirse Ronan in “Brooklyn” into Drama Actress and Blythe Danner in “I’ll See You in My Dreams” into Comedy Actress. So far off and so interesting, loving it already.

Do we think Joy will err more on the drama side rather than on the comedy side? I always had the impression it would be more of a dramedy with an emphasis on comedy, similar to David O. Russell’s more recent works (SLP, AH). I know she’s a single mom, but it’s a movie about a woman who became rich and famous for inventing a mop. I personally don’t see it being a drama, but I guess no one actually knows at this point because it literally JUST started filming. I think Lawrence will take Anna Kendrick’s spot as I don’t see The Last 5 Years being an awards contender in any sort of capacity.

One awards season with films from both Inarritu and O’Russell sounds like a nightmare. I don’t know how I’m gonna handle it

The first post contains a bit of a contenders list, the film categories have 15 and the acting/directing with 10 each. Open to feedback around which contenders should or shouldn’t be in the mix.

What is this talk of Demolition being in Musical/Comedy? I have heard it is very dark – maybe not as dark as Nightcrawler, but some seriously tragic stuff happens in the film. I am not quite sure where the idea that it is a comedy comes from (maybe the comparisons to American Beauty? But that was also a drama?)

I guess I was going off an article I read which really diluted the subject matter, after reading up further on a few other sites I soon changed it into Drama. This could be Jake’s Oscar ticket.

Demoliton is a very dark, oddball movie along the likes of Young Adult. I think Fox Searchlight would be wise to move it to Comedy. It would potentially be a non-starter in Drama.

You still have faith in Cameron Crowe’s new film after the Sony Hack?
