I think they should for this year, not only because of a lot of the movies that were scheduled to come out this year were affected by the pandemic, and therefore there aren’t as many contenders, but Soul could easily win and it’s one of Pixar’s best films.
What do you think of this?

December 31, 2020 at 5:35 pm #1203955699Maybe I’m alone on this alone, but I agree with the Globes not allowing films to compete in more than one Picture category. It gives more opportunity to spread the wealth. I do, however, think films should decide if they want to compete in the main category or in the specific ones.
About Soul winning: Yes, it would definetely win if it was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. The Globes proved 3 times they have no bias for animated features in that category: Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Toy Story 2 all won.

Thats how it should be. Im 100% sure minari doesnt want to compete in foreign language film. Movies should make the choice. I like the idea of having them compete in best picture but they shouldnt be allowed to compete in animation. If they did this, They could award soul in picture comedy or musical and Wolfwalkers win animated film.

I wouldn’t be so sure. They will most likely win Best Foreign Language Film, while a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Drama would be pretty uncertain.

That’s what I thought! Wouldn’t be amazing?

As it should be. Even if Soul is nominated, the comedy categories would be a cluster F. Who are you predicting in comedy film right now.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. A fine pick imo. But maybe Hamilton will win? We’ll see.
Hbu?

December 31, 2020 at 7:25 pm #1203955787Short answer, obviously yes. Long answer, it should be because animated films shouldn’t be discriminated against competing in film categories. And the fact that it isn’t eligible when not only did animated films use to be eligible, but have also won, is inexcusable. Not only is Soul deserving of a win, its the most deserving animated film to win this category in years. Obviously it will animated film and possibly score, and if it was eligible it might not even get nominated. But its deserves to have a chance at least.

FYC Razzies: Dear Evan Hansen (in all eligible categories)

It would be a lock for the nomination and very safe choice for the win.

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2021 at 2:59 pm #1203956923It’s just me but I found Soul so underwhelming. It’s not even the Best Animated Feature Film on my book tbh.
