Would’ve been nice to see more love for Shiva Baby here.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 21, 2021 at 10:59 am #1204530422I think they combined the male and female categories to be more gender inclusive–I think it’s something we’ll see more of in the future, albeit mostly for smaller awards shows (people will NOT want more competition at the Oscars.)
At any rate, I’m giving the edge to The Lost Daughter here.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 21, 2021 at 11:07 am #1204530431Why did they combine Male & Female Lead altogether? Same with Supporting????
It wad a stupid decision, i hope the other awards don’t follow this stupid trend.

This is not inclusive is exclusive, and every time a man wins in these combined categories, some crazy people will say they’re misogynists.

Second best movie I’ve seen this year (but I haven’t seen most of the Oscar contenders yet)! ❤️
ReplyCopy URLOctober 21, 2021 at 11:33 am #1204530486This trend is good for festivals, not during the award season. Its too political correct for my taste. This is the only time I am 100% in a disagreement with my two Queens: Cate and Tilda

Best Picture: Holy Spider
Best Director: Decision to Leave
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett
Best Actor: Brendan Fraser
Best Supporting Actress: Olivia de Leon
Best Supporting Actor: Ke Huy QuanOctober 21, 2021 at 1:08 pm #1204530733I know some were concerned the removal of Best Actor and Best Actress to create ungendered Lead and Supporting categories would allow for men to win more often, but I actually think Olivia Colman and Ruth Negga seem most poised to win in their respective categories. To me, at least.

October 21, 2021 at 1:12 pm #1204530744non-gendered categories might be the best trend awards should follow.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 21, 2021 at 1:45 pm #1204530829Mass snubs are interesting. I’m not sure if any other major contender was snubbed here? Belfast has 2 US producers but I think the 2 Americans can’t be in the same role?
ReplyCopy URLOctober 21, 2021 at 1:47 pm #1204530836Genderless categories are great and they are here to stay. It’s only a matter of time before bigger voting bodies include them.
I can’t say much about the nominations because I didn’t get to see a lot of these, but International Feature is looking pretty good! I would be fine with any of the four I’ve seen winning.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 21, 2021 at 1:59 pm #1204530945Genderless acting categories means 2 less acting wins so I say NO.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 21, 2021 at 2:16 pm #1204530970I’m as liberal as they come, but I don’t agree with genderless. It means less wins & recognition.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 21, 2021 at 2:31 pm #1204530993Actors have enough recognition (and a big-ass salary) already. They will be more than fine with just two categories, especially when all the other branches only get one.
