Literally nobody but a handful of people on social media will complain when a man wins in a combined acting category. Inevitably some big-name Hollywood fuck will make a statement and then the rest of us will clown them for it and that’s how a new normal is developed. It’s fine makes the most sense.

Not people trying to argue that genderless acting categories mean “less people will be awarded” when these awards specifically only had two acting categories before with 5 nominees each and now they’ve replaced it with two acting categories with 10 nominees each lol.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

Considering the heavy backlash the Dutch Academy had gotten for the non gendered acting categories had gotten, even among liberals, yeah, this may backfire soon when system interests came in play.

At least with the Gotham, considering the background, it’s understandable. No one actually weights here lol. But yeah, among the big awards, that won’t happen soon.

Yeah and there’s only one winner, the number of nominees won’t matter, genderless awards is the most stupid thing they could ever do. People complain all the time when his favorite actor and actress don’t win, those complains will be worse now when there will be only one winner, man or woman. And maybe there will be a man and a woman equally good in one particular year, one of them will go home empty hand.

I guess we’ll have to look to the winners but with the Dutch Academy, both the winners of the non-gendered categories were men.

As a non-binary person, OFC on principle this is the right thing. Execution is a different thing altogether, and maybe if you despise non-gendered categories you should try giving a reason otherwise it seems like…you disagree on principle too.

I think the real factor here for the Gothams is the IFP’s membership gender breakdown, and if it’s…..not as unequal as freaking AMPAS, and indie organizations DO tend to be more equal, then I don’t get why there should be a problem here?

Hey guys, just a couple of days to go before the winners are announced. Who are we predicting? Thoughts? Any potential upsets?

I have no idea what will win this, as always. I’m going with Passing because it got released close to voting. The Green Knight could win since it has a lot of passion and the jury system benefits that.

    Best Film: Passing
    Runner up: The Green Knight

    Lead Performance: Simon Rex
    Runner up: Olivia Colman/Joaquin Phoenix

    Supporting Performance: Ruth Negga
    Runner up: Colman Domingo

    Screenplay: Passing
Runner up: The Green Knight/The Lost Daughter

Breakthrough Director: Edson Oda – Nine Days
Runner up: Rebecca Hall – Passing

    Breakthrough Performer: Emilia Jones
    Runner up: Rachel Sennott

    International Film: Titane
Runner up: The Worst Person in the World

    Documentary: Summer of Soul
    Runner up: Flee

Hopefully Tessa wins because she deserves some recognition (even if small) for her wonderful work in Passing.
