Stephanie Hsu’s snub hurts the most

I had no idea Catch the Fair One was released in the calendar year (I assumed it was released last year because it was nominated at the Spirits). Was Banshees eligible for the main categories? I just assumed it wasn’t due to McDonagh and the credited producers being British/Irish. When I saw Nina Hoss had made it in I thought it was a promising start for her chances but then I saw Noemie Merlant made it in and now I don’t know what to think.

Happy to see After Yang getting recognition here. Was already interested in checking them out but seeing how strong their lead performance category overall was (Deadwyler, Dickey, Farrell, Yeoh) has made me want to check out Emily the Criminal and God’s Country.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

It’s not surprising that Tar overperformed – if there ever was a movie designed to appeal to the Gotham crowd, it’s this one. But still, there are some eyebrow raisers. Hoss and Merlant did fine work, but I wouldn’t have nominated them. And Buckley/Whishaw with no Foy? Hmm.

FYI: The categories are not voted by the same members. Each category is voted by a different jury, so EEAAO missing in Screenplay is not really relevant.

    Whishaw??

Updated to add Buckley and Whishaw. Seems like every list tweeted out was missing someone because of the stream glitching!

Hong Chau getting in for The Whale should make the remaining few to remove their Sadie Sink predictions.

Michelle (Yeoh, Williams) Oscar campaign manager.

    Hsu’s miss is very upsetting!

But Foy missing over Wishaw and Buckley is staggering. I thought she is a clear favourite of the film. The supporting race between her and Buckley won’t be so easy I guess

Me getting wound up over them snubbing Foy whilst nominating Buckley and Whishaw but then remembering they snubbed everyone from Mass apart from Reed Birney last year.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
