Pretty sure no one said “only” but “mostly”. Because if EEATO is not our fav and is not among the top BP contenders rn, will this passion for Hsu and her performance still appear now on Film Twitter? The opposite case is exactly Quan and Yeoh, whose performances are simply outstanding and can survive films with mixed reviews.

Hsu is definitely great and the best supporting actress in EEATO, but it’s a typical case where the film itself and our love toward it help the actor/actress more than his/her own performance does when it comes to getting an Oscars nom. Come on… if her performance is undeniably remarkable, we don’t even need this talk and she would have been like Yeoh and Quan, taking noms & wins within expectation.

My NGNG pick came true! Gutted I forgot these were happening today and didn’t put a super bet on it.

Happening was doing quite well with American film critics prior to recent socio-politically relevant real life developments so I thought the emotional relevance behind it (alongside the fact that it’s a critically acclaimed and very good movie) would help it triumph. Curious to see how it might play with the critics awards now!
