One of the most discussed things of this past Oscar season is how Hillbilly Elegy is a trash film, but it contains an excellent performance from Glenn Close. She and the makeup are now Oscar nominated.

What other aspects from less-than-great films do you consider to be great or even Oscar worthy?

Rob Simonsen’s score to Nerve (2016) is simply divine, the way he uses electronic music as opposed to a traditional orchestral score gives the film both a more intimate feeling during the heartbreaking scenes (“Aftermath”) and larger than life feeling during others (“Night Drive”) or sometimes a combination of them both (“Snitches Get Stitches”)

I think Nicole elevated Bombshell. The whole thing was such a disappointment, but I had it coming for buying those blonde wigs the minute that first teaser was released.

    Andra Day in Billie Holiday

Tom Holland was really good in Cherry, even if the film was a hot mess.

Glenn Close was really good in Hillbilly, even if the movie was hot trash.

My Octopus Teacher was incredibly pretty even if I hated the documentary itself (which I know is an unpopular opinion).

    FYC:

Best Screenplay: Never Rarely Sometimes Always (Eliza Hitman)
Best Actress: Sidney Flanigan ("Never Rarely Sometimes Always")
