What do you think is Martin Scorsese’s greatest film of the 21st Century, thus the last 18 years until now???? (So of course we have to exclude the upcoming Killers of The Flower Moon in 2021).
Vote in the poll and sound off in the comments.

Something about “The Departed” that I really love – watch it on a regular basis.

April 7, 2020 at 12:14 pm #1203414380The Aviator is his greatest achievement of the 21st century imho, and it contains Di Caprio’s greatest performance of his career, for which he should have won his first Oscar.
It’s the most accurate depiction of OCD ever portrayed on film.
ReplyCopy URLApril 7, 2020 at 12:41 pm #1203414439His later work this century is phenomenal, which is an incredible achievement given that his earlier work in the century is still good and solid work (particularly The Aviator). I will have to go with Silence, but The Irishman is a close second. Stellar artist.

It should get more love in the list of “Best Films of the 2000s”.
ReplyCopy URLApril 8, 2020 at 6:02 am #1203415405WOWS or The Departed. I may give WOWS the edge cause it’s a true epic but then The Departed sex scene is really hot and Leo/Vera chemistry is scorching. Tough.
Surprised Silence is getting so many votes. Is it that good? Never saw it cause Garfield rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

Silence is great and underrated.
ReplyCopy URLApril 8, 2020 at 9:19 am #1203415679I think that Silence was botched by stupid release stratgy. It was a tough sell movie that should have gone festival route instead of limited Xmas release. It got lost in the holiday shuffle.

Absolutely agree, it has Garfield’s best performance of his career, and it’s one of Scorsese’s most profound and most challenging films.Should have gone for the multiple festival screenings route.
ReplyCopy URLApril 8, 2020 at 10:09 am #1203415792At least Garfield had consolation in that he was nominated in the same year for Mel Gibson movie (forgot the title). Though working with Marty is honor itself so I don’t think anyone regretted the experience even though things didn’t pan out as they should have.
