Yeah this is very clearly a trailer for a movie that isn’t finished, you can tell. because all the shots are so short. I assume the second one will be a lot cleaner.July 30, 2021 at 2:02 am #1204371486
This is just the first trailer – I expect the second one will flow better due to the film being finished, and show more of the other actors (we barely saw Adam the other lead here, and if you blinked you’d miss Jeremy Irons etc).
I’m excited by this though – if they get the tone right then it’s easily Oscar bait (plenty of camp films get nominated)July 30, 2021 at 2:22 am #1204371512
I wonder if Driver might get overshadowed by Gaga, Leto and Pacino in the film. I think the marketing will heavily focus on Gaga.July 30, 2021 at 2:51 am #1204371555

It is an interesting one because he has really good material but the character is very shy – which comes across in the trailer. He gets a good transformational arc and some really great material though and there’s a lot of big scenes that just aren’t here because the trailer is short and quite Gaga-focused. You do get a little hint of what comes later in the film in that quick shot where he’s at the table with all the businessmen and throws the plate.
Based on the trailer it’s really hard to tell who will get in from the cast as there’s little actual content, more a vibe – Pacino has some great material too and he’s barely there, same for Irons, same for Cottin.July 30, 2021 at 2:58 am #1204371559
I don’t really know how critics will react to it. It could be well received or get totally panned. They usually don’t respond well to camp movies.
I think there’s been a dearth of great camp movies lately (The Prom, anyone?) Critics often do respond well to camp when done right; any critic who dismisses camp outright is not worth their salt imo.
It’s hard to say from this trailer if House of Gucci will perform well with critics, but I’m pumped nonetheless.July 30, 2021 at 3:00 am #1204371561
So far I’m not impressed and why is Gaga doing a russian accent?July 30, 2021 at 3:24 am #1204371584
I swear some people write „don‘t think this is a best picture contender“ or „don‘t think this is an above the line contender“ on every new trailer that comes out. well what WILL be a contender then? There have to be 10 BP nominees lol
Anyways this looks better than i expected, can‘t wait to see it.
FYC: Lead Actress - Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza)July 30, 2021 at 3:34 am #1204371594
Looks trashy camp.
May be at the very best a lower tier BP nominee, but aside from a make up mom and Gaga, and maybe Leto (or Pacino too?), i don’t see it getting in Directing and other major categories.July 30, 2021 at 3:42 am #1204371607
Costumes and Makeup seem like locks, along with at least one the usual things that goes along with period pieces, i.e. Production Design, Cinematography, Editing, something like that. Gaga and Picture also very possible. I will never underestimate Jared Leto ever again, and Adam Driver could always be dangerous. Screenplay, why not, they have never been snobby when it came to unsubtle stuff. I will quietly move Scott out of my Director predictions though. This doesn’t look like a film that the people who snubbed Chicago 7, Three Billboards and A Star Is Born would embrace.

Darlings, it looks campy but Cheap Madonna snatched that accent. Sounds exactly like the real person!
As a famous singer said, "ain't nobody gonna Thatcher, Thatcher, Thatcher!"July 30, 2021 at 4:11 am #1204371644
Someone else has said this already but it’s basically impossible to predict how HoG is actually going to do based on that trailer because there’s so little of the film’s actual content in it. It’s just a marketing tool based almost exclusively on the film’s star power and is really clearly not a finished product. Why they put it out so early is a bit confusing as why not wait until they were closer to picture lock, but it has done exactly what it intended to do – whetted the appetite of its audience. The hype train is unreal.
Where I am Adam Driver has been trending on Twitter for four straight days and Gaga for two. These MGM folks know what they’re doing, and that’s why there are shots like them making out in a bathtub in the trailer rather than IDK, Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons shouting at each other.July 30, 2021 at 4:12 am #1204371646
a video comparing Gaga and Patrizia’s accents
