    1. Chamber of Secrets

    2. Philosophers Stone

    3. Prisoner of Azkaban (this is where the franchise starts to go downhill and really lose the magic of books, but at least it had some whimsy and was visually appealing).

4-7. Not interesting or memorable enough to rank.

    8. Half-Blood Prince. UGH. Instead of Tom Riddle flashbacks we get a half-baked teen romcom. And Snape half-heartedly muttering that he’s the HBP like it’s an afterthought instead of one of the most explosive moments in the series. And the movie doesn’t even bother to mention what it means. They couldn’t have taken 30 seconds to have Hermione be like, “I looked into Snape’s background and his mother was a witch named Eileen Prince who married a muggle.”

Anyway, the franchise was not good and needs a reboot. This time as a tv series on HBO. With age appropriate actors for the adults PLEASE. Alan Rickman is great, but he was DECADES too old to play Snape and skewed casting of the other adults as well.

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen all of them, and the story and feel of all them kind of blends together, but I’ll do my best:

    1. Deathly Hallows part 2

    2. Prisoner of Azkaban

    3. Philosopher’s Stone

    4. Goblet of Fire

    5. Order of the Phoenix

    6. Chamber of Secrets

    7. Half Blood Prince

    8. Deathly Hallows part 1

It’s worth noting that I like all of them to certain extents.

Darling, the only decent one is the Azkaban one. The rest of them are soul-less and boring messes.

As a famous singer said, "ain't nobody gonna Thatcher, Thatcher, Thatcher!"

    1) Chamber of Secrets – Perfectly captures the atmosphere of the novel and barely cuts anything out, which makes it a perfect ADAPTATION for a fan like me.

    2) Goblet of Fire – Although very rushed and with lots of material left out, I like how intense this movie was, and also thought it captured well the “feeling” of the novel. I also always cry when Amos… You know.

    3) Philosopher’s Stone – I have nothing against it, I was hooked when I first watched it, I just like the other 2 a little bit more.

    4) Prisoner of Azkaban – I love this one, although I don’t like how drastically Cuarón changed the visuals and etc, it took me out of it, and I also thought the screenplay has too many unnecessary cuts (and by extension, plotholes). Still, love it.

    —-

(I don’t really like any of Yates contributions to the saga)

    5) Deathly Hallows Part 1 – It’s decent, I just think they should have made less camping scenes and more scenes about how the world was going. IMO, they were too faithful to the novel in a bad way.

    6) Half-Blood Prince – I know, they butchered the novel(which is one of the best) and the movie lacks an actual plot, but I like the feeling of it, the fact that it’s not as rushed as the previous 2, and the cinematography. At least I could enjoy a little more of Hogwarts’ day to day activities, which the previous 2 movies lacked.

    7) Deathly Hallows Part 2 – The first half is very good, but it goes downhill after that. They didn’t really explore the battle, the second half feels too slow and too rushed at the same time, the editing isn’t great either(it feels like they edited the hell out of it), and I don’t like the cinematography or visuals in general.  I just didn’t feel an atmosphere of closure nor something epic in the air, it was all too simple. It just feels half-baked to me, like they just wanted to get it over with.

    8) Order of the Phoenix – The only good thing on this mess is Imelda Staunton’s performance. I hate the directing, the visuals, the soundtrack and specially how extremely rushed it is. All the good scenes(Voldemort x Dumbledore) still have major flaws(like being too short, or having no soundtrack). Although I don’t like any of the movies after this one, they still are way better.

I actually liked the Yates movies better but I can’t really remember them separately. I think he nailed the atmosphere. Just watch that scene with Harry and Dumbledore at the lake when he has to force him to drink.

Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Sandrine (La Ceremonie), Brie (Short Term 12), Jodie (Silence of the Lambs), Jodie (Killing Eve), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)
