It’s truly the end of an era, kids! It opens the door for quite a bit now, like rescinding Oscar wins or suspending membership to equally troubling figures (let’s not forget that Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, etc., all still enjoy the privileges of membership and voting too). Very swift decision on their parts, which is relatively new and refreshing.

He never was a member. He rejected all invitations.

I do not agree with the idea of rescinding Oscar wins. They are done and voted for, and besides, what is the Academy going to do, force the expelled member to return their statuette? Eliminate their victory from the record books? Everyone knows they already won. I would approve of rescinding someone like Polanski’s membership, but not his Oscar. That would be absurd.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 14, 2017 at 4:50 pm #1202237295I understand if you’re fine with the kind of creepy behavior that Jason Momoa had, the groping that Ben Affleck had, and PROVEN covering for Harvey that both Russell Crowe and Matt Damon did, but please shut up about that on these forums. You’re only hurting victims of harassment and abuse by letting people who aren’t Harvey slide. When Matt Damon called on behalf of Harvey to get an expose on him axed! This is not a witch hunt, quit sounding like Donald Trump. This is holding the assholes who have been PROVEN to have covered for men like Harvey and people who promote rape culture accountable for their actions.
Good to see you are proving my post by going for the wrong people. Momoa said a bad joke, but Sasha has said worse on here. Affleck did grope someone, but that was ages ago and wouldn’t dare do it now. Crowe and Damon did do something despicable, but I never said that I supported that, I mean be a little more careful before you accuse someone else of something. This is not about rape culture in society, and by saying it is we might as well let Harvey off the hook. This is about actors and actresses being raped and abused because of the casting couch. Harvey was abusing his power as were Crowe and Damon. Going on a witch-hunt trying to find people who made rape jokes or groped someone years ago, that’s just letting these powerful men who have a chokehold on Hollywood and everyone’s careers within go unaccounted for. There are fucked up shits out there, but we are now getting caught up in sick jokes. I can guarantee that unless there isn’t an overhaul in Hollywood by the time the Oscars end, then the Weinstein scandal and the testimonies of all his victims was for nothing. If we can’t get rid of the casting couch, right now before this blows over, than we have failed.

ReplyCopy URLOctober 14, 2017 at 7:00 pm #1202237325Man, that Casey Affleck Oscar win hasn’t aged well. So much crap coming out. All these unreported rapes. Just disgusting stuff. Academy is gonna have to background checks on all their members going forward. This kind of behavior cannot stand.
