The movie is fine but Amy and Glenn are great. This is my favourite work from Amy aside from Sharp Objects.

I would love to see them winning Oscars eventually but winning for this would be shameful and very undeserved.

WTF was this?
ReplyCopy URLNovember 24, 2020 at 6:57 am #1203861173the fact that glenn is actually in a very little part of this film and still managed to be the worst part of it… kinda impressive

i expected her to be category fraud but she isnt. she probably doesn’t have more than 25 minutes of screentime
ReplyCopy URLNovember 24, 2020 at 7:06 am #1203861203That was honestly awful. Some of the acting was legit terrible, and there probably wasn’t a single really developed character in the whole movie. Close was alright but her make-up and acting reminded me a bit of the Kermit scrunch face. Adams and the two guys playing Vance were pretty subpar. I don’t see this being a player at all outside of the make-up and hairstyling and maybe Close ist Supporting Actress.
By the way, how is Amy Adams being campained in Lead for this? I’d argue that she’s even more supporting than Close is.

ReplyCopy URLNovember 24, 2020 at 8:03 am #1203861520Did Amy and Glenn see Oscar in their approach to “Hillbilly Elegy?” An adaption of a best selling memoir directed by an Oscar winner. It looked good on paper and here was their chance to finally take home the gold. And boy did they act towards it. Over the top – yes! All over the place – Yes! Would it bother me if they won Oscars for this mess? – hell, no. I especially wouldn’t be bothered if Amy Adams gets an Oscar nod, because she does have her moments along side her not so good moments. And Glenn, oh what a mess of a performance. She just seemed to be trying too hard to wear that gold dress again. But should we expect anything but messy performances since the movie was about messy people with messy lives messing up everyone else’s life. Yes, the movie is a big old mess! I didn’t hate it, but I can’t say I embrace it either.
So, if somehow one of these fine actresses slip through and get an Oscar for a borderline good/bad performance, so be it. They both are long overdue – I hate that I’m writing this because I hate when the Academy gives an overdue actor an Oscar passing over a much better performance. And I know there are much better performances from actresses coming this way. Kirby. Davis. McDormand. Day. Winslet.
p.s. neither one of these beautiful actresses are winning for this. I personally hope they don’t get nominations because I would hate to see Amy sitting there smiling and waving at the camera yet again as her nomination is called and clapping one again for another winning actress. And I also don’t want to see Glenn nodding again in resignation that Oscar has once again passed her by. And please don’t wear gold if somehow you get a nod.
Like the movie, this post is all over the place.
