I thought Glenn Close was fine. So was the score. Other than that, this was bad.

“The public” that was supposed to come out in full-force to support this film are too busy watching OAN and QAnon videos.

You guys are acting as if this was a Razzie contender. It’s not, but the Oscars should not touch it either.

As for the actresses, I like a lot of “Acting”, but what Adams and Close did was too much even for me. Haley Bennett was the best part of the cast. She and the real life footage used at the end were the only things that moved me somehow.

This was nowhere near as bad as critics are saying. Amy and Glenn were both terrific, they’d make good nominees. Haley Bennett was also very good. The film is obviously not perfect, several issues with the writing and directing, but overall it was a decent film.

The critics overall weren’t that harsh on it. It’s at a 40 on Metacritic. More middling to bad than downright terrible.

Call me a hater but I do not think yelling and crying make great acting. There are infinitely better and more deserving performances that should be rewarded over these two hamming it up to bad writing and direction. Them getting nominated would be moronic.

    FYC:

Best Director - Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Darius Marder (Sound of Metal)

Lead Actor - Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods), Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal)

Supporting Actor - Paul Raci (Sound of Metal)

Supporting Actress - Youn Yuh-jung (Minari)

what was the political element of this film?

Anyway, Close is still getting nominated for this. Adams? Probably not, but this is definitely not Razzie worthy for me.

I just love movies. And awards.

After seeing this film today, it’s clear to me that its ultra-negative reviews are really just a smear campaign. There is simply no way that this film deserves a MC or RT rating as low as 40 or even less than that. Even a rating of 60 would be too low. There’s definitely a (political?) bias against this film that’s quite obvious. The film is positively benign and it captures your attention from the very beginning. I did not feel bored while watching it and I’d be willing to watch it again. It just holds your attention the whole way through, and there were several moments that made my heart race LOL (like the scene where the teens were driving the car). Amy Adams was great! She was the real highlight of the film for me, and I hope she gets nominated for an Oscar. Glenn Close wasn’t given much screen time but she did really well with what little she had. She too deserves an Oscar nomination. As a matter of fact, Both Glenn and Amy actually resembled the real-life characters that they were playing. I actually felt for JD because anyone who’s ever had to deal with an addict in their life, be it a friend or a relative, knows the struggle all too well. I don’t know the backstory with regard to the book and its author or whatever political views he’s got, but I don’t care! This movie definitely deserves to be nominated for Oscars. I hope that the Academy members will see right through the bullsh*t (aka the negative reviews). F*ck the critics!

Some people think the reviews have been so savage because the author of the book is a conservative in real life so the reviews have a political bias.

(Don’t know if this is true, haven’t seen the movie, read the book and I don’t know much about the author. Somebody told me he was on Tucker Carlson’s show yesterday discussing that the reviews may have been inspired more as personal attacks on him than the film.)

Just finished it. I thought it was ok. Obviously the movie wasn’t perfect. Close was fine. Adams had her moments. She was overacting in some scenes. Haley Bennett was actually good and outacted everyone. Lowkey enjoyed the score but yeah that’s about it.

Also Amy Adams really missed out on playing Tonya Harding. Maybe she could’ve won with I, Tonya lmao.
