Interesting to note that Clayton Davis of Variety’s Awards Circuit had both of them high in his rankings, but just dropped everything Hillbilly Elegy (including Close) out of the top 5-10 in their respective categories. https://variety.com/feature/2021-oscars-predictions-academy-awards-nominations-1234764774/

That was probably due to the mixed reactions to the trailer.

He’s always changing his predictions. I wouldn’t take it seriously tbh. I’ve talked to some pundits, who have seen it, and they’re very confident in Close winning and both getting in. Also, Clayton is very influenced by Film Twitter.

Couple of people now saying they’re sitting this one out after JD Vance makes some extremely questionable tweets.

That was always the film’s primary grudge but Howard was the first to take it off by saying its a family drama rather than a political film.

Netflix wouldnt be so juveline to fall in that during campaign. If people dont watch it for Vance they were just ready to hate on this from the start, regardless of the outcome.
So basically tons of people on this forum.

Let’s not forget that in the middle of Oscar season two years ago, Nick Vallelonga came under a lot of fire when a tweet of his from 2015 (in which he agreed with Donald Trump’s false claim that “thousands of people were cheering” on rooftops in Jersey City following the September 11 terrorist attacks) resurfaced. Alex Meyer even predicted that Green Book (which Nick had a shared writing credit on) was going to get snubbed for a Best Original Screenplay nomination as a result. Yet, Green Book not only got nominated there, but it also ended up winning that award as well as Best Picture (where Nick Vallelonga also received an additional Oscar as a producer on the film).

Clayton always has biased and ridiculous predictions. I wouldn’t pay them much attention.

She named her wig “The Mamaw” while Adams named hers “Beaver.”
I also read that the people behind her transformation are the same people she worked in the film Albert Nobbs.

To be fair, Vance is racist, borderline-fascist whose musings about Appalachia are about as accurate as Nate Silver’s polling lol.

The film will undoubtedly do well, of course, but it shouldn’t be taken as anything…prescient.

After reading his tweets, I hope this movie gets ignored all-around with maybe only Glenn Close winning awards so she can give sprinkle in political statements that would make Vance squirm.

To be fair, Nate got the 306-232 electoral vote total right this year when everybody was predicting something different.

Besides, I thought Nate doesn’t do polling and just introduces the data from all the polls into some statistical model. Don’t quote me on this though.

Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Sandrine (La Ceremonie), Brie (Short Term 12), Jodie (Silence of the Lambs), Jodie (Killing Eve), Nicole (The Others), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)
