Oh Glenn. 🙁 This makes me sad. Still watching the film when it drops on Netflix to properly judge for myself.

What role exactly do the critics play in the awards race, especially in such a peculiar year such as this where all the upcoming televised awards will more than likely be virtual? If this movie is set to be released on Netflix in a week or two, I would think that the voting bodies have already received their screeners weeks or months ago, and will have already made up their minds about whether or not to vote for any of the castmembers.

I don’t care if I sound deranged but I’m still rooting for Glenn and hoping she is somehow able to be the singular salvageable aspect of this train wreck.

Emmy FYC!!: Pen15, Mare of Easttown, The Crown and The Handmaid’s Tale in all categories.

I could see a scenario in which she still gets nominated, veterans are sometimes able to sneak into supporting categories in shitty movies in weak years (Robert Duvall in The Judge, Max Von Sydow in Extremely Loud… etc.) but even then she’d only get in bc this year is especially weak.

Why would they have received screeners so far in advance of the review embargo being lifted? There would be too much risk of leaked screeners.

thats pretty much how award bodies work. they can just give you an encoded screener that you have to sign for. that way if it leaks they know who did it.

Critics lost all power after that green book win. The reasons why they are attacking the movie(that it is middle of the road) is the same reason why it can still be a success at oscars.

Comparisons between Green Book and this movie don’t make sense though, since Green Book wasn’t in any way panned by critics (it had a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes): it was just highly divisive and a love-it-or-hate-it type of film. Same goes for Bosemian Rhapsody, Vice, and Joker. The only recent example of a panned Best Picture nominee is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, which was still better received than Hillbilly Elegy.

This movie is lower than Batman Vs Superman on RT and MC. Poor Amy.

What the hell is this “Critics hated Green Book” revisionism? 77% certified fresh and 69 MC score is NOT a critical flop, it is the very definition of “generally favourable” to “very positive” reviews. Stop with this nonsense.

This is wrong. It’s not even an opinion, it’s straight up wrong.

I hope the Oscars don’t nominate Glenn. Leave her alone please since she’s not winning. She doesn’t need to keep increasing her record.

    Find another filler somewhere else.

The Judge was a fantastic film!
