What are your favorites and what do you consider the best?

    I love the classics (It’s A Wonderful Life, A Christymas Story, etc…)

Of the newer ones my favorite and the one I consider to be the best is  The Family Stone. Great cast , script and direction. I make time to watch it every year. I think Keaton deserved a supporting nod for this.

I am watching Nothing Like the Holidays now and quite enjoy it.

    How about you all?

Of course I love all the classics.  For some more recent films, one of my faves is Love, Actually- so many sweet stories, especially the one with Liam Neeson and his son.

I never liked A Christmas Story. It’s actually kind of torturous that it is on for 24 hours every year because most people I’m around want to watch it over and over again lol.

My favorite classics are It’s a Wonderful Life and White Christmas.  Definitely look forward to watching those two every single year. I also LOVE the Garfield animated Christmas special. (I’m counting it as a movie because I have it on DVD).

There’s a Rob Williams comedy Make the Yuletide Gay that’s also cute and funny.

I never liked A Christmas Story, either, though it may be unfair of me to say because I am not sure if I’ve ever seen the entire movie.  But I think I am a little too old, as I was already an adult when it came out, and I didn’t have kids to watch it with back then.  And I’m also female, and I wonder if guys might identify with it more than gals do.  But I’m glad folks like it.

Our family tradition is The Muppet Christmas Carol. Not the best Muppet movie, nor the best version of the story, but I love it and my family watches it every year.

Yes! ELF! I came into this thread to post this very thing. One of the best “holiday” pics ever. Funny, and the opposite of mean-spirited.

    Home Alone

When Kevin McAllister reunites with hs mother, the conflicting emotions of joy and betrayal still touch me. John Hughes remains a guilty pleasure!

I went to see A Christmas Story in the cinemas when it first came out, and all i remember is that i hated it, but i can’t remember why. But i seem to hate it so much i can’t bring myself to rewatch it over the years.

Anyway, my favorite holiday movie at least most recent one would be THE POLAR EXPRESS. It’s the only movie i truly enjoyed in 3D, and it was magical from start to finish.

I suspect the appeal of A CHRISTMAS STORY is primarily nostalgic for the senior set and those who long for the good old days of overbearing father figures.
