I am so glad that Lynch is getting this. Bittersweet, because he never won a competitive Oscar, but nice to see some recognition.

No disrespect to Geena Davis, but there are enough non-Oscar winners in Hollywood that they could have given this to instead.

OMG! Geena Davis Oscar #2. This is so RIGHT.

She and Jolie have twin Oscar records. Both won for their freshman nod in supporting and earned a sophomore nod in Best Actress. Now they’re recognized with a Jean Hersholt award which is an Oscar statuette with a different inscription.

Lynch’s best bet at winning director was for The Elephant Man. But his nods for Blue Velvet and Mulholland Dr was awesome. And his losing for Drive whiling consoling fellow director nominee Robert Altman was everything.

Both were also groundbreaking for women leading action films.

Meh, the women of Cameron have claim to that title: Weaver and Hamilton.

And Glenn Close. Those competitive defeats 30 years ago aren’t any better today.

All of this happened over the weekend, but not a peep from the media. I miss when these awards were on the actual telecast.
