The Unpopular Opinion thread got me thinking. Who would you like to have seen nominated?

Yes Alien deserved for Sig, Cartwright and Ian Holm. (Was Sigourney campaigned at all? Lead or supporting? Anyone know?)’

From Aliens both Paul Reiser and Carrie Henn

Cartwright again for The Witches of Eastwick

    Marcia Gay Harden, The Mist

    Laurie Metcalf, Scream 2

    Lee Remick, The Omen

    Sidney Blackmer, Rosemary’s Baby

Yes Alien deserved for Sig, Cartwright and Ian Holm. (Was Sigourney campaigned at all? Lead or supporting? Anyone know?)’

I really doubt anyone from Alien was campaigned at all and certainly at the time nobody was predicting or even talking about Oscar nominations for the actors – it was strictly technical consideration.

I second Cartwright for The Witches of Eastwick (& Alien).

    Others:

    Mia Farrow, Rosemary’s Baby
Betty Buckley & Nancy Allen, Carrie
Henry Daniell & Boris Karloff, The Body Snatcher
    Anthony Perkins, Psycho
Michael Caine & Nancy Allen & Angie Dickinson & Keith Gordon, Dressed to Kill
    Melanie Griffith, Body Double
Katherine Ross & Paula Prentiss, The Stepford Wives
    Claude Raines, The Invisible Man

Edward Woodward & Diane Cilento & Christopher Lee, The Wicker Man
Donald Sutherland & Julie Christie, Don’t Look Now
Udo Kier & Maxime McKendry & Arno Jurging, Blood for Dracula
Vincent Price & Robert Morley & Coral Browne, Theatre of Blood

A lot of people. Off the top of my head

    Essie Davis, The Babadook
    Tim Robbins, Jacob’s Ladder
    Abigail Breslin, Signs
Kirsten Dunst, Interview with the Vampire
    Alex Wolff, Hereditary
    Toni Collette, Hereditary
    Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place

I just love movies. And awards.

    Loving the lists so far!

Can’t believe I forgot about Mia in Rosemary’s Baby. (It just seems like she was nominated since the omission was so ludicrous)

Keith Gordon in Dressed to Kill and Paula Prentiss in The Stepford Wives are both brilliant ideas. Loved those performances. Katharine Ross too especially since that was the infamous year (1975) when there was talk of boycotting Best Actress since there was so few women to nominate. She was an obvious candidate right under their noses.

I swear I asked about Sigourney Weaver being campaigned for Alien once before and somebody said that there was one trade ad. I can’t remember if it was for lead or supporting though.

    Anthony Perkins, Psycho
    Jack Nicholson, The Shining
    Shelley Duvall, The Shining
    Toni Collette, Hereditary
    Alex Wolff, Hereditary
Lauren Bacall, The Fan (waaay too camp for Oscars, but she would have deserved a nomination for this bold and brash performance)
    Mia Farrow, Rosemary’s Baby
Nicole Kidman, The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Barry Keoghan, The Killing of a Sacred Deer
    Betty Gabriel, Get Out
Lupita Nyong’o, Us (just being ahead of the curve here)
    Nicole Kidman, The Others
    Isabella Rossellini, Blue Velvet
    Dennis Hopper, Blue Velvet
    Jennifer Lawrence, mother!

This would not have even been a topic for discussion in the last two decades were it not for Hereditary.

Jennifer Carpenter for The Exorcism Of Emily Rose is one of my favorite performances ever.

I do think this was VERY deserving of awards recognition, it’s not just that she was amazing, the way she inhabits the role (physically and emotionally) defines a huge part of the movie and the scary moments it has are because of her.

    Garance Marillier, Raw

Florence Pugh, Midsommar (might as well lol, it’s going to happen)

Veronica Cartwright and Sigourney Weaver, Alien

I’ll think of some other ones later.
