I’m sorry I still don’t understand the logic of this argument that The Last Duel’s awards prospects are inversely proportional to those of House of Gucci. Is it a corollary if the fact that Ridley Scott directed both films, and there’s an “only Gaga/Leto or Comer/Affleck can get in, but not both” contention? Mystifying to me, as I recall well when Soderbergh’s Traffic and Erin Brockovich both did quite well for themselves, and no one was slagging one in hopes of boosting the other during that awards season. 🤷

You are totally right, they have nothing that relevantly affects each others chances specially for being in different studios with their own release strategy. But there are quite a number of TLD defenders and Gaga antis that try to diminish HoG as if it would uplift the former’s prospects after it underperformed at the box office, e.g. that world of reel guy.

I mean, in a way it makes sense that only one of the two HOG/TLD will be able to be a major contender across the board. Has a director ever had two movies get multiple noms in major categories in the same year?

It happened in the 80s-70s but yes rarely overall.

Well not many directors release two major movies in one year, but pandemic delays hit this one. The biggest example is have tho Steven Soderbergh nominated for both Erin Brokovich and Traffic in the same year and winning for the latter. To no shocker they were distributed by two different studios which allowed their campaign and screenings to run easily with no interference.

Same case here with TLD and HoG tho we don’t know if TLD can even be considered that major as Disney been dropping the ball with this one, sadly. It’s a good film.

Lol you don’t need to go back that far – as I said, it happened in the year 2000 and there were no groups of Traffic fans tearing down Erin Brockovich, or vice versa, trust. (Interesting that both were defeated in BP by a film made by…. Ridley Scott.)

It didn’t happen to that same extent in the 80s or 90s – one of the closest was Oliver Stone in 86 with Platoon and Salvador.

It happened in the 70s with The Godfather Part II and The Conversation, and with The Goodbye Girl and The Turning Point. And it happened in prior decades, too.

Well, for once I hope Twitter lunatics do their thing and devour that Weber asshole. The fact he got scared and deleted those awful Gaga related tweets and limited who can reply to new ones speaks for itself.

It really looks roughly done. But hey, let’s take a look at it first before we condemn it.

Exactly. I’ve been saying this. They won’t even verify things properly. It’s extremely harmful. And they keep doing it again and again. Just to DAMAGE the movie. Same accounts.

They ALWAYS post negative press about the movie here. Desperate/miserable whoever is doing it. Same accounts.
