Box office can be stronger card for a movie campaign during pandemic than a high RT score, who knows, remains to be seen.

Saw this last night and really enjoyed myself.

I don’t really understand the comments about lack of chemistry. Everything from an acting perspective just worked for me. I actually really enjoyed Adam’s subtle performance, but his growth / change throughout. And Gaga gave an intense, stunning performance.

    The accents didn’t bother me.

I can see the criticisms over the editing, some weird choices or rushing. Ending seemed rushed. Timeline hard to track.

But overall, this is the first adult drama I have seen in some time, in the theatres, and it was a pleasure to enjoy a chewy movie that was all about the performance and acting. A great ensemble.

Welp, it’s now on track to turn rotten. A nightmare. This is performing way worse than I expected. I expected this to be in the vicinity of 70-80, but I never actually thought that it would end up being a panned rotten disaster.

Okay so once you get past some of the accents (looking at you Driver in particular), it’s a great movie. Pacino, Gaga, Hyak were the standouts to me. Leto…was ok. My grade: A

There are tons of positive reviews that are yet to be added, it’s just those critics who liked the movie for some reason are not as eager to submit them to RT as immediately as those who are fuming about the movie

The movie will probably underperform severely due to the new “nu” Covid strain. I suspect that there will be more lockdowns.

Idk about other countries but we’re not going to have any more lockdowns in the US. Plus, the Nu strain has yet to show any evidence it evades the vaccines. We’ll just have to see.

Do you know how this works? Five fresh scores from top critics came in and the score didn’t move. One rotten score from a top critic came in and it dropped a point. I really want to understand how they grade these things.

    How do you know this?

Where are you predicting that it’ll land?

Unfortunately, both MC and RT grading system is a mess. And RT needs to stop allowing reviewers to choose whether their review is rotten or fresh, since HOG has tons of reviews with 2.5/4 which are marked as rotten. Like make it make sense

Ok, so I’m glad it’s universally confusing lol. Hoping it doesn’t go Rotten because I can see that hurting Gaga, but I truly do think her performance was good enough to not be held back by errors she didn’t make.

BAFTA social media excluding Leto from the caption. We’re on the right track.

I really liked it. It was long but it was far from boring. The performances from everyone were fantastic – Gaga and Leto especially were the standouts and I think they both would be deserving of winning an Oscar. The weakest part of the movie was without a doubt the screenplay. Some parts were very rushed and I wish it had shown Patrizia’s decision making in wanting to kill Maurizio. It was odd that such a big decision was made off screen.

    4/5
