Welp, it’s now on track to turn rotten. A nightmare. This is performing way worse than I expected. I expected this to be in the vicinity of 70-80, but I never actually thought that it would end up being a panned rotten disaster.

Also there aren’t going to be any more lockdowns even if they’re warranted–and we haven’t seen if Nu warrants it yet.

Yeah, I finally watched…. IT WAS MARVELOUS OMG, so delicious and a story that kept me going and going. Wanna watch it again soon cause whew.

yay! I don’t think I’m going to get to see it this weekend 😔😔😔 and its on at an awkward time for me during the week. Fingers crossed though.

As for chemistry between Gaga and Adam.. Its been overwhelmingly positive from what I’ve seen in reactions. Some are surprised because they were not expecting it to be that good.

Based on what’s on screen and not on PR promos, the editing of the movie and how each actor approached their role affected how I perceived the chemistry. It did nothing for me, and I adore Gaga and Driver individually.

I’d have a different opinion if the movie actually allowed them to develop their relationship at a slower pace and allowed us to understand their bond beyond the first 5 minutes. It’s not about how “cute” or “hot” they look together, but how the actors and the story interact 🤷

Ok, this movie is still with me so more thoughts:
On the editing, it bothered me a lot in the beginning when they were introducing Patrizia and went straight to the party. There was no time to digest her background tho we could intuit. Some of the scenes cut too short indeed and it was annoying, I had the same feeling with A Star Is Born. But assume the latter had a conscious style of editing tho. Also noticed a similar abrupt scene cut thing in The Power of the Dog, but that happens after a long examination of the scene, which is not as seen in House of Gucci.

However, Gaga and Driver have such instant chemistry you get enchanted by their first interaction. Maurizio being so shy gets amazed on someone as outgoing as Patrizia hitting him so hard and trying to keep also brings his impulsive life choices. While Patrizia for sure gets interested on the powerful name she also finds his charm so endearing. That connection makes the first act drive deliciously. You root for the characters for some portion of it.

I really think the film gets better once the family issues come into play and conflict of interests rise. Tbh only Pacino could’ve represented that. He gets such good irony of how powerful Aldo is, and the alienation is intuitive. Leto brings the film down cause doing everything purposefully dumb made it seem like Paolo was the weak link with the others. However every single one of them is a horrible person. I don’t even think Paolo was that stupid in real life, just corny. There was no need for so in-your-face comic relief. They were all comic in their ridiculousness already.

I agree with others who missed a scene of Patrizia deciding to go on with the murder. It didn’t cause a huge holee, but would add to the drama. Still, the downfall of Patrizia that Gaga so perfectly embodied signaled she was willing for everything in that desperation.
That brings us to the end where she is terrible pain for the mess she raised but also confident to have survived it. Such conflict amazed me and makes me think her 2 final scenes were top notch.

Ridley Scott was able to capture strong parts of a soap-opera essence, it’s so absurd and overwhelming and at the same time terribly serious and affirmative to their actions. It believed in itself despite the exaggerations. That is camp, not cracking jokes to break the ice or putting any shit on your clothes. Most importantly, it only becomes camp over time as a reflection or opposition of your time’s manner. And after following Gaga for so many years, I think she’s aware of that.

Gorgeous blockbuster, for sure wanna watch it again and bring my friends and family to witness as well. Scott was 2/2 for me this year with very different projects that also were great to examine its female leads. Praying HoG’s box office succeeds so MGM keeps the campaign all the way through the season. I will love to see it represented (sans Leto).

Just realized all House Of Gucci has to do is gross $60m and Gaga will have a career box office of over half a billion with just two movies. And she will have done it with two rated r movies. Amazing.

Saw it yesterday and disliked it more than I thought I would.

I’ll just emphasize on what I hated the most, Jared Leto.

What the fuck was he doing, who directed him like that, who told him that was good or engaging, he was legit acting like Danny DeVito as The Penguin (a performance I love), but actually even more of a caricature.

The movie was made to basically destroy the image of Paolo Gucci (not that he had a good image tbh), there is just no way to connect with the character or feel bad for him, there is a huge disconnection between what happens to the character and the delivery of the content, there is no emotion in that performance, he doesn’t transmit anything because Jared doesn’t allow himself to show what the character is supposed to be feeling. Horrendous performance, I was cringing for 2 and a half hours, I could have died from cringe inside that theater.

I actually felt bad for Paolo. He didn’t deserve what happened to him. The only thing he wanted was to be recognized for his work, but he was betrayed by Maurizzo and Patrizia.

I have to agree about Leto, I absolutely hated his performance, it made me so uncomfortable. That being said, the two people I saw it with yesterday loved him, so maybe we’re in the minority here.

What happens to him is very sad, but Leto’s reaction to everything was like jokes, those “WHYYYY” when he got out of the car, Jesus Christ, he was giving Drag Race acting challenge realness haha.

A friend just texted me- she saw the movie in NYC. Packed house. Audience loved it.

Like it or not this thing is registering with audiences and I think it’ll be a smash hit.

I really don’t want him nominated for anything, that would piss me off haha.
