I do think this movie is flawed, but it still deserves recognition from the Academy for Best Makeup, Costume Design and nominations for Gaga in Best Actress and Pacino for Supporting Actor. The audience reception being greater than the critical reception makes me hopeful that House of Gucci will have enough supporters in the Academy to get some nominations. I think critics are going too hard on this film tbh.

the thing is regular movie goers with no particular allegiances are liking it. I’m watching the reactions and it’s usually people who have a vested interest, be it as a critic or a Gaga fan who are scrutinising it to the point where all enjoyment is gone.

One thing I hate about this movie existing is that it seems to have invited a consensus that Gaga didn’t deserve to be nommed for ASIB. Even her fans themselves are using that as way to show how much she’s grown as an actress to be deserving for this movie. For my money, Gaga earned those raves and that nomination and if she wasn’t seen as a pop star it wouldn’t be in question.

Darling, you just spilled the tea. And it’s hot. Your taxes will be lower from now on.

As a famous singer said, "ain't nobody gonna Thatcher, Thatcher, Thatcher!"

Honestly it’s the first time I read this take, like some people are poiting out that in this role there’s just acting and not music performances that are Gaga’s strongest point with being a talented musician, but her raves and Oscar nomination for ASIB were totally deserved because also in the music  performances she put raw emotions and acting.

She didnt deserve to be nominated that year and thats just a fact. She did great for her first film, but there were tons of other performances that were more deserving that year.

Is it normal for Disney animated movies not outperform in UK, or is it a surprise that HOG beat Encanto there?

I just got out of Gucci. I really enjoyed this film even though it still has issues. The editing/pacing was a bit messy as some scenes moved so fast….in fact, most of the scenes were too short for my liking. The film is very long, but it felt so short at the same time. I would have loved too see a heavily pregnant Patrizia cos the baby came too fast after the announcement of her pregnancy. It lacked music as well. Hour of Glass plays when Aldo reconnects with Paolo, but I didn’t hear Big Dreams or did I miss something? Most of the scenes would have fared better with music. Some of the business talks should have been yanked off cos it needed more Patrizia and a stable voice over would have given a clearer view of some moments. I’ve heard talks of Patrizia disappearing for 21 minutes or so and I don’t think that’s true. She can’t possibly be in every scene, but she didn’t miss out that much straight up. In my opinion, this should have been straight up a Patrizia biopic cos she was the heart and soul of the story. That said, it didn’t deserve the smack down it got from critics. This films should be at least in the 70s on MC and 80s on RT and I disagree with people who said it lacked subtlety. There were subtle moments and it didn’t bore me.

    I give it 8.5/10

Lady Gaga should be winning best actress. She’s the best I’ve seen. There are four scenes that should seal it for her- the argument scene with Mauricio, the one where she was shockingly served the divorce papers, the unethical but fair scene and the one where she attempts a reconciliation with Mauricio. Gaga embodied this role. I mourned her any time she went off screen. She’s that good

Adam Driver should be nominated for best actor. He was believable as the shy Mauricio. Al Pacino should be winning supporting actor and Salma Hayek should be nominated for supporting actress. While she didn’t get enough screen time (she deserved more), Hayek was so convincing as the self acclaimed psychic Pina. I didn’t like Jared Leto in this. He was just so off the hook for me

So I just watched House of Gucci and I agree with the general consensus that the editing was messy and Jared Leto… I don’t know what he was doing but it was a mess.  For me the MVPs were Pacino, Irons and Gaga.

I didn’t think Gaga was that good at first, but the last 30 minutes completely sold me.

Unpopular opinion: I actually liked the cinematography and thought Adam Driver was good.
I can see it getting noms for Picture, Actress, Supporting Actor, Costumes and Makeup. But i wouldn’t be shocked if Gaga doesn’t make it.

This story, made as a movie, should’ve focus only on the crime part, their relationship

but the whole thing would be perfect as a limited series

I totally agree. The crime was supposed to be the reason for the movie, but it was barely in the movie and we needed more of Patrizia especially post murder
