So this was shit. I wanted to leave the theatre but I was with friends so I couldn’t.

This was interminable, I felt every second pass. It went in way too many directions and arrived nowhere near something satisfying. I would have loved to see the movie only focus on the mafia aspect of the fashion industry but… alas, we can’t always get what we want.

    As for the acting :

Irons and Pacino were very good. They are the only ones I wouldn’t mind if they get in.

Leto is a fucking disaster, seriously who let that happen ?

    Driver is fine, nothing noteworthy.

I don’t get the hype around Gaga’s performance. I mean she’s definitely not bad (even though at times I felt she was a bit overacting) but if that’s a performance that’s Oscar worthy, standards have gone looow.

    How??

If she becomes so popular among membership that she places top 2 and gets automatically nom’d. Or a more remote possibility that she’s not placing top 2 she’s still loved by the jury and gets nom’d.

It is unlikely and not a good prediction now but HoG is having a stronger reception in UK so who knows.

Back up to 62% on RT with almost 210 reviews. This has continued to fluctuate between 61 and 62 since Friday/Saturday.

We don’t need to play critics when watching movies. Just sit and enjoy.

I thought you had to be British to be nominated for a Bafta?

Not at all. You can be from anywhere. But now they changed their voting system to include more black actors, and I can see Gaga out.

No… Gaga won one for best film music (first woman to) and also get nominated for best actress, some members of the BAFTAs are also Americans.

Havent seen this, but its definitely getting a lot of buzz in the general public. Think it may just be enough to be that one film that does well awards season thanks to audience response (+ relatively impressive box office draw)

Not saying that it will definitely happen, but there’s literally nothing shocking about her getting a BAFTA nom, is there?

A two-time nominee and a former winner, starring in her second consecutive hit at the UK box office, that is very well received by both the UK press and the audience. Why wouldn’t she be a serious contender at a BAFTA nom?

And I seriously don’t understand what it is about the BAFTAs that’s supposed to be so out of reach for her. Last week I saw a Gaga stan here talking about how shocking it was for her to get nominated there for ASIB. Like, huh? Her movie made $40 million over there, her songs were inescapable during the voting period, and she was never below top 3 in the Best Actress race. Why wouldn’t she have gotten a BAFTA nomination?

Gaga’s nom for ASIB was very obvious since her film was in full campaign and acclaim all the season. She was always a shoo-in, but only proved how powerful her status were.

Now it’s much harder cause they have a jury that decide the acting nominations based on a shortlist. And in this past year they snubbed many contenders including GD-sacred Carey Mulligan. So a lot of power is in the hands of a panel. But 2 slots are reserved for the 2 most voted in the shortlist phase. So if Gaga gets so beloved with actors it goes top 2 then she could be nom’d. But that is, as of now, unlikely.
