Ok, it was REALLY good. I understand the complaints about the pacing but it really didn’t bother me. I went in knowing they had a lot of ground to cover so the jumps in time made sense.

Jared Leto’s performance was absolutely useless and annoying. IDK what anyone saw in him… he was genuinely bad.

Gaga was fantastic. I’ve been a fan of hers since 2009 and it’s ridiculous how she was able to transform even for someone who knows everything about her.

Pacino was sooooo good. He played his character so endearingly and made him the only lovable character. So fun to watch. He’s not getting enough love I feel and it’s a shame because he deserves it over Leto.

I don’t agree with the critics who say it slows down, though. I felt the beginning was the slow part and the last half was where all the action was. The ending scene where Patrizia’s final words and overall feeling solidify her descent into madness was amazing. She was no longer in reality at that moment.

“Evaporate, and leave us cinephiles alone.” 😭

Saw this again with a friend tonight and my theater ate this up. Laughing pretty much anytime Jared and Salma were in a scene and multiple “oooooh” or “oh shit” moments. It’s a NYC audience and the audience was pretty diverse in age and race.

I think critics will have this wrong when it comes to audiences. Yes, there are a few issues with pacing and cuts, but audiences will remember those laughs and oh shit moments much more than a random cut.

I loved it too. I loved the tone. The acting. The script. Gaga of course.

why some critics hated it is beyond comprehension. The New York Times critic who said it was the work of a hack should he ashamed of himself.

My theatre ate it up! Huge laughs, and gasps of shock towards the end. Everyone was engaged start to finish. My best friend had no knowledge of the story, and has never seen Gaga act, and she was blown away. I have seen ASIB probably over 50 times, and I was never that blown away by Gaga’a acting, but her performances were great. BUT HOG is a whole different level. I have never watched a film and felt so engrossed in the characters and the story. Like I genuinely didn’t feel like I was watching Lady Gaga. She IS Patrizia Reggiani. I mean WOW. I can see why some people don’t like the film as a whole, but as someone who read the book, and knew of the characters, I was truly blown away by Gaga, and Adam, surprisingly. I see it again tomorrow, but as of now I would give it a 4/5. And I will be shocked if Gaga doesn’t get nominated for the performance. Go see this film.

Are you actually a woman lol 😆

I’m wondering if this movie might end up getting the Bombshell treatment for Oscar noms; a strong Best Actress nom (Gaga) bringing along a supporting (Leto) with it + hair & make-up.

The GP is eating this up. A good thing for the movie in every angle.

I mean didn’t Bombshell bomb at the box office though? I think if HoG’s projections materialize, it’ll definitely be elevated. I’ll kinda see it as more of a Joker/BR than Bombshell.

    I’m hoping for an A cinemascore, can be A-, A or A+ I don’t care.

That + good BO numbers will probably offset the mixed critical reaction.

Off Topic but since we have talked about it in here before let me just say that AW is seriously a trash forum with a trash moderation, it’s an ATRL kind of board pretending to be serious when in fact it’s not with tones of stans hiding behind some pretentious movie or actress signature with in fact very blatant childish behaviours, they allow haters and trolls in the House of Gucci thread unbothered all the time, but then they ban the people and users who points out how the moderation doesn’t do anything.

They like to act as that board is superior also to this one when in fact there’s a bunch of childish vile users and moderators.

House of Gucci is yellow on both sides of metacritic (critics and users). I don’t get the bad user reviews, the movie is not that bad.
