To be this was the biggest shocker of the night. Warren and Gaga seemed to have everything going for them, with Warren’s 8th nomination, Gaga’s Sound of Music performance, the subject matter, and the campaigning. Sam Smith’s song was critically panned, and the film itself wasn’t much better received either. For weeks prior to the ceremony, Warren and Gaga were thought to have nearly 90% chances of winning. How did Sam Smith beat the odds?

1) Seeing Lady Gaga lose after giving the best performance of the night and having the whole place standing and some crying.
2) Diane Warren must be hated, seriously. 8 Academy Award nominations, 8 for god’s sake.
3) Such a crappy song winning after also giving a meh performance.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 28, 2016 at 10:08 pm #219358TIHTY is a beautifully PERFORMED song about an important subject, but the lyrics are nothing special. It was hyped on 3 things: the subject matter, Lady Gaga’s Sound of Music performance, and Diane Warren’s 8th nom. Zero hype for actually being a really well written song, which it wasn’t, and that’s surprising because they’re both talented writers and had a hell of a subject to speak on. I think they’ll both be nominated again, though. I don’t think Sam should’ve won either.
