For this year’s Oscar telecast, numerous changes are being announced to try and incentivize more people to watch the program. Will the efforts pay off? Or is attempting to reverse the Oscars dwindling audience as futile as trying to find gold at the end of the rainbow?

February 24, 2022 at 12:27 pm #1204816061They should find new ways of making money rather than just advertising revenue from network television. Reaching as many people as possible should be their top priority, that means meeting the viewer where they already are. Disney has abc.com, Hulu and Disney+, and their various youtube channels where they can livestream the telecast. Then find new ways to make money off of these livestreams. I don’t care if they make people pay $$ to livestream, just end network TV exclusivity.
The bigger problem is that we live in a fractured media space where everyone is in their own little bubble within the internet. There are so many TV shows and movies that people watch on their own time. I would tell ABC to stop trying to turn the Oscars back into appointment television, that doesn’t exist anymore.

All I see on twitter are viral tweets after viral tweets about this guaranteed outcome. Whenever I step outside, the only thing I hear people talking about is Penélope’s inevitable speech. People seem more excited about Penélopes red carpet look than they were about the superbowl.
Therefore, I’m predicting the highest ratings of all time with 256m viewers.

February 24, 2022 at 12:43 pm #1204816075Most award shows have no ratings,I expect both Oscars and Grammys to hit new all-time lows this year, as these are being watched by as many people watching a random daytime show and that says it all. Most adversiters know this aspect and have turned to more internet ads and social engagement strategy for award shows. Oscars as the biggest would go down too, as all the others and it is fine.

But no, seriously. Who expects good ratings for the Oscars in 2022?

ABC still expects good ratings for the Oscars, and star power being nominated can never hurt the telecast, but nice attempt at Gaga shade.

Rent free lol
They’ll probably be horrible. this site is an echo chamber, no one outside here cares about awards shows anymore. Less than 10m probably after getting a rock bottom 10.4m last year.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 24, 2022 at 4:03 pm #1204816211I predict 12-15 million. A bit higher than last year but nothing too drastic.

It’s kind of true her music doesn’t sell. But her movie HOUSE OF GUCCI did very well at the box office: The only successful drama at the box office in the last 26 months

Ain’t no way. I think they will go lower again. I think the Oscars has lost relevance and importance for good.
Predicting a 5-7.5M viewers.
