Anyone feel like counting or have the statistic online somewhere?

The Timothee Chalamet thread got me thinking about this. There is still just one lead actor winner and 4 supporting men who won in their 20s yet tons of women.

    Strange statistic.

Anna Paquin is the one who comes to mind but for in their 20s there are just so many that’s it’s rare for someone older to win. It’s unfortunate as young male actors get overlooked.

The 20s and 30s are typical ages to win Best Actress. There are under 15 women who’ve won best actress in their 40s. And only two in their 50s.

Thanks for counting, Isn’t that fascinating. 1 man under 30 and 32 women. I’m not sure what that says about the academy and how they view the different sexes.

I think we do. May not be very prudent writing it down…

The shelve life for leading women in film is fleeting. Streep and a handful of others are the exception to the rule. There is no limit to the length of a male actor’s career in film if he can endure the process of being denied recognition until it pours over you like Sam Rockwell, Christian Bale, and Mahershala Ali.

    Um, you’re joking right?

You read RobertPius’ post wrong. “Isn’t that fascinating,” was a rhetorical, unsurprised question.

Darlings, that’s sexism. But here in GoldDerby most users stan the young ingenue every freaking year. It’s not only the Academy. The Academy itself is a mirror of society. And the one we live in is truly disgusting.

Honestly? Have I also misread this:

I think you did, yeah. The user isn’t sure what exactly it says, but it sure says something.

    Case in point: Florence Pugh.

She’s fantastic. But she’s not at Laura Dern’s level.

Darling, literally everyone in the category trumps Shouty’s level. I have to laugh.

Nope, my instincts were correct. People are blind, deaf and dumb. If you honestly are scratching your head on this issue well it’s time to consider yourself part of the problem. Blind Freddie can see what women have shouted about for millennia. I’m shocked at the ignorance.

Yikes, you’re really misunderstanding everyone now hahaha. Obviously there is sexism at play, hence, “it sure says something.” However, we can’t exactly see the root/why it happens the way it does, hence, “isn’t sure exactly what it says.” We know it’s because of sexism, but we don’t know exactly how it works. I hope you can understand now.

Also, bringing blindness and deafness into this is not cool. Don’t be an ableist.
