Argo we knew obviously would win it was a lock. However if Argo completely didn’t even exisit and Ben Affleck never made it, Who would’ve won? Life of Pi, Lincoln, Playbook? I’m not sure.June 9, 2014 at 4:29 pm #154478
I’m going to say “Silver Linings Playbook”June 9, 2014 at 4:51 pm #154479
Zero Dark Thirty should have won, but i’m going with Lincoln because it’s a more obvious choice imo.June 9, 2014 at 6:38 pm #154480
I assumed the thread said who should win instead of would win so I voted for Silver Linings Playbook. but I think Life of Pi would have won because Ang Lee won Director and deservedly won as well.June 9, 2014 at 6:57 pm #154481
Would have? Life of Pi.
Should have? Zero Dark Thirty.June 9, 2014 at 7:00 pm #154482
I love Silver Linings Playbook, It should have won!June 9, 2014 at 7:06 pm #154483
I actually felt that Lincoln was the Best Film of 2013. Yeah, I know I’m in the minority on this one
FYC: Ready Player One. Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Original Score, Production Design, Director and BEST PICTURE (make it happen Oscars!!)June 9, 2014 at 7:43 pm #154484
The best film is clearly Zero Dark Thirty. Embarassing that the director wasn’t nominated. All around outstanding work—cinematography, editing, score, sound mixing, sound editing, best ensemble, supporting actor, actress, screenplay (hugely successful work, incorporating events that happened into a central narrative over 10 years culminating in a riveting final sequence that is better directed than some “action” directors’ entire careers).
I believe Silver Linings was the BP runner up, though it only won Best Actress. Hugely likeable film, very successful, entertaining and funny, great blend of drama and comedy, great replay value. Is it a great film? No, but it had more support than Life of Pi in the top categories. Don’t let the director result fool you…Life of Pi wasn’t in it to win it for BP.
Lincoln, I felt, was not a very focused film, showcasing a performance rather than a director’s vision. I really enjoyed it though, flaws and all.June 9, 2014 at 7:57 pm #154485
I don’t see any reason to think it wouldn’t have been “Life of Pi.”June 9, 2014 at 8:43 pm #154486
Should have: Zero Dark Thirty
Would have: LincolnJune 10, 2014 at 12:18 am #154487
Should have: Zero Dark Thirty or Silver Linings
Would have: Lincoln.
Life of Pi just doesn’t scream Best Picture.June 10, 2014 at 12:39 am #154488
Should have: Beasts of the Southern Wild
Would have: Honestly, Silver Linings Playbook. Like it or not, there was a great deal of enthusiam surrounding it, and its fanboys were the loudest and proudest.June 10, 2014 at 3:33 am #154490
I think they would grudgingly have gone for Lincoln. Yes, support for it seemed to be soft, but only because they had Argo to wipe it out. Silver Linings had loud fans, but I don’t think it quite had the heavyweight factor/artistic edge to take it all the way to the win. Lincoln would’ve won BP and adapted screenplay I think (and the latter fully deservedly).
And pedantic point: there is no such thing as “would of”!
