I’m just wondering if she was never conceived from Mary Wilkinson or had she not over slept in the day of her interview ( for being a lawyer, I believe ). Who would’ve played her greatest roles such as Sophie, Miranda and Francesca? If so, who would we consider as the greatest actress?

Ursula Andress was the Alan Pakula’s first choice for Sophie’s Choice ( a straight to video affair most likely). Miranda would be played by Glenn Close, Francesca probably an Italian actress

We consider Jessica Lange to be the greatest actress even with Meryl existing, wdym?

that’s post AHS. Lange was kinda forgotten before Ryan picked her up

If so, who would we consider as the greatest actress?

Also, a lovely listen on why she achieved this status:

For Sophie’s Choice the director debated between hiring an English speaking actress who’d learn Polish or a Polish speaking actress who’d learn English. He narrowed it down to Streep and some semi-famous Polish woman and then decided to go with Streep. So I guess he might have gone with the Polish woman had Streep not been around.

Darlings, if Meryl Streep didn’t exist, I wouldn’t neither. Her performance as me in The Iron Lady inspired me and made me create an account in this website.

This is true, I remember reading a British tabloid at the time and it saying to effect of “Poor Jessica, the state of her career when her peers (Streep & Close) are competing for a Best Actress Oscar and she’s stuck on in a supporting role on a 2nd rate cable tv channel in a horror show by the people behind Glee”.

Which ironically, her as Constance Langdon ended up being a far superior performance to both Streep’s and Close’s and her performance being far more remembered / iconic than both of her peers.

Wasn’t Pakula’s first choice Liv Ullmann? Maybe he’d been considering her a while beforehand, don’t know if he decided against it or she turned it down.

Judy Davis is criminally underrated. Feel likewise about others, such as Hanna Schygulla.

I love Meryl, but if Glenda Jackson had come out of retirement to play Margaret Thatcher it would have arguably been the most iconic performance of the century given the irony.

Helen Mirren would have been amazing as well. Kim Basinger was rumored too….and I believe she actually would been good. I can see it.

Yes she was. Apparently Goldie Hawn wanted to do the role which seems implausible but you never know.
