For the past few years, it seems as the movies, which won either Best Original or Adapted Screenplay, usually won the Best Picture, as well. If it would be the same case again this year, which movie would probably win both?

    Best Original Screenplay
    1917
    Knives Out
    Marriage Story
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
    Parasite

    Best Adapted Screenplay
    Joker
    Jojo Rabbit
    The Irishman
    Little Women
    The Two Popes

    Parasite

Parasite winning both would be groundbreaking. It would mean that the language barrier is finally broken and the bias are broken through.

Really the only ones that have a chance of winning both Screenplay and BP are Parasite and Hollywood.

    Easy, Parasite.

As a side note, The Artist and The Shape of Water won in the past decade without a screenplay win.

Yes, I noticed that, too. They got nominated for screenplay but they didn’t win. However, their directors won as well. If it happens to be the same case, then 1917 will probably win.

I’ve been saying this for a while. Screenplay matters more than Director now. 2 of the 5 films that won Screenplay and Picture this decade also won without a Director nomination.

Yes, it seems like screenplay matters more. If a script is bad, no matter how hard director tries, s/he can’t turn it into something great. But if a director isn’t so good, it still can work as long as storytelling is intriguing.
