I know a lot of you on here like to post updates from this time of the year so with the “delayed tentpoles” arriving in full force and the festival circuit opening in full force this week (salut Cannes), I thought I’d start this year’s thread.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")

Ok, this is fun. For now, I’m just going to do the Picture, Acting, and Directing categories because I don’t really want to include films I hated.

I’ll also be going by Oscar eligibility (even if I watched some of these last year) for the purpose of this thread.

    Best Picture:
    1. The Woman Who Ran (4/5)
    2. Little Fish (4/5)
    3. Shiva Baby (3.5/5)
    4. Raya and the Last Dragon (3/5)
    5. No Sudden Move (3/5)

    Best Director:
    1. Chad Hartigan, Little Fish
    2. Hong Sang-soo, The Woman Who Ran
    3. Emma Seligman, Shiva Baby
    4. Prano Bailey-Bond, Censor
    5. Steven Soderbergh, No Sudden Move

    Best Actor:
    1. Jack O’Connell, Little Fish
    2. Patrick Wilson, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
    3. Bob Odenkirk, Nobody
    4. Benicio del Toro, No Sudden Move
    5. Don Cheadle, No Sudden Move

    Best Actress:
    1. Kim Min-hee, The Woman Who Ran
    2. Niamh Algar, Censor
    3. Olivia Cooke, Little Fish
    4. Rachel Sennott, Shiva Baby
    5. Vera Farmiga, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

    Best Supporting Actor:
    1. Danny Deferrari, Shiva Baby
    2. Fred Melamed, Shiva Baby
    3. Cillian Murphy, A Quiet Place Part II
    4. Raúl Castillo, Little Fish
    5. Nicholas Hoult, Those Who Wish Me Dead

    Best Supporting Actress:
    1. Molly Gordon, Shiva Baby
    2. SoKo, Little Fish

    4. Seo Young-hwa, The Woman Who Ran

I’ve only seen Black WidowLuca and The Woman in the Window. So, Luca for all categories and Black Widow for Supporting Actress and Original Score.

Haven’t seen any of the good ones since The Father (2021). After that, i’ve watched some terrible films of 2021 to satisfy my campy soul. I can’t imagine i’m voting for these:.

Porn-like-title, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

    Cruella

    Moxie

Well, that’s too hard, but I’d like to shine some light on another great horror performance (against all odds in a teen-horror trilogy): Emily Rudd was sensational in Fear Street Part Two: 1978!

Ryan Simpkins would be my pick for Supporting Actress in the exact same film. Emma Thompson’s campy turn in Cruella is a close second. Another strong contender was Medina Senghore in Those Who Wish Me Dead.

Kelvin Harrison Jr. was absolutely fascinating in Monster, so I’d give Lead Actor to him.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It‘s Ruairi O’Connor would take Supporting Actor.

    FYC 2022 Emmys:

Best Actress in a Drama Series: Sandra Oh in "Killing Eve"

Best Actress in a Comedy Series: Sandra Oh in "The Chair"

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Kim Joo-ryoung in "Squid Game"

In my list, movies in 2021 are eligible here so like Judas, The White Tiger and Billie Holiday. But anyway, I’ll do a complete breakdown later. For now, just wanna highlight Cruella and In the Heights.

I just love movies. And awards.

I have literally only seen one film yet that I would deem excellent enough to compete in some categories, and that’s Nine Days from 2020. Hope that changes when I see In the Heights.

Interesting seeing the love for a couple of the Shiva Baby supporting actresses—I hated the film, but enjoyed Agron the most.
