We don’t know if this will actually happen (I have a feeling it won’t) at the Oscars – but, as an experiment, if you like, who would have taken the sixth slot?

    Gonna do all the 2010s

    Supporting Actor

2020: Song Kang-Ho: Parasite (Though Willem Dafoe and Jamie Foxx got closeish)

2019: Timothee Chalamet: Beautiful Boy (Not a heavy year this year)

2018: Willem Dafoe: The Florida Project

2017: Hugh Grant: Florence Foster Jenkins

2016: Idris Elba: Beasts of No Nations

2015: Josh Brolin: Inherent Vice (This had all the precursors in lockstep, christ)

    2014: Daniel Bruhl: Rush

2013: Javier Bardem: Skyfall (Narrowly over Dicaprio Django)

2012: Albert Brooks: Drive (Or Armie Hammer J Edgar)

2011: Andrew Garfield: The Social Network

    2010: Alfred Molina: An Education

    Supporting Actress

2020: Jennifer Lopez: Hustlers(I think Margot Robbie for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood would actually be 6th, but rules mean Lopez I guess, Song Kang-Ho was the closest Parasite star to an Oscar)

2019: Claire Foy: First Man (I’m not sure about that, but blatant category fraud for Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place probably cost her)

    2018: Hong Chau: Downsizing

2017: Janelle Monae: Hidden Figures (IDK about Greta Gerwig sorry, Monae was in an Oscar movie at least)

2016: Helen Mirren: Trumbo (Literally only because Vinkander had a nomination already.)

2015: Jessica Chastain: A Most Violent Year

    2014: Oprah Winfrey: The Butler

    2013: Judi Dench: Skyfall

    2012: Shailene Woodley: The Descendants

    2011: Mila Kunis: Black Swan

2010: Julianne More: A Single Man

    Actor

    2020: Taron Egerton: Rocketman

2019: John David Washington: BlackKklansman (Runners up – Steve Coogan followed by Ethan Hawke)

2018: James Franco: The Disaster Artist

    2017: Joel Edgerton: Loving

    2016: Johnny Depp: Black Mass

    2015: Jake Gyllenhaal: Nightcrawler

    2014: Tom Hanks: Captain Phillips

    2013: John Hawkes: The Sessions

2012: Michael Fassbender: Shame (Narrowly beating Dicaprio Edgar due to BAFTA nom momentum)

    2011: Ryan Gosling: Blue Valentine

2010: Michael Stuhlbarg: A Serious Man

    Actress

    2020: Lupita Nyong’o: Us

2019: Emily Blunt: Mary Poppins Returns (Viola Davis in a better world)

2018: Judi Dench: Victoria and Abdul

2017: AMY FUCKING ADAMS: HOW THE FUCK DID YOU SNUB HER ARRIVAL

2016: Maggie Smith: The Lady In The Van

2015: Amy Adams: Big Eyes (Beating Jennifer Aniston narrowly)

2014: Emma Thompson: Saving Mr. Banks

2013: Marion Cotillard: Rust and Bone

2012: Tilda Swinton: We Need To Talk About Kevin

I don’t think either Cho Yeo-Jeong and Jennifer Lopez were sixth for Supporting Actress.

Nicole Kidman in Bombshell was probably next in line.

My favorite, but I think the AMPAS members just didn’t watch THE FAREWELL, so she wasn’t #6 🙁

It’s quite possible that her, Awkwafina and Original Screenplay all finished 6th.

She won Independent Sprit over JLo and they mostly go where the Oscar buzz leads them, so I think she ultimately finished closer to a nomination.
