We don’t know if this will actually happen (I have a feeling it won’t) at the Oscars – but, as an experiment, if you like, who would have taken the sixth slot?
ReplyOctober 3, 2020 at 7:02 am #1203755061I will begin….
2019 – Best Actor: Christian Bale – Vice, Bradley Cooper – A Star Is Born, Willem Defoe – At Eternity’s Gate, Ethan Hawke – First Reformed*, Rami Malek – Bohemian Rhapsody, Viggo Mortensen – Green Book
2019 – Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali – Green Book, Timothee Chalamet – Beautiful Boy, Adam Driver – BlacKKKlansman, Sam Elliot – A Star Is Born, Richard E. Grant – Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Sam Rockwell – Vice
2020 – Best Actress: Cynthia Erivo – Harriet, Scarlett Johansson – Marriage Story, Lupita N’Yongo – Us, Saoirse Ronan – Little Women, Charlize Theoron – Bombshell, Renee Zellweger – Judy
2020 – Best Supporting Actor: Tom Hanks – A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood, Anthony Hopkins – The Two Popes, Song Kang-ho – Parasite**, Al Pacino – The Irishman, Joe Pesci – The Irishman, Brad Pitt – Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
* – John David Washington would probably have been a very close 7th.
** – I reckon Willem Defoe was 7th and Jamie Foxx was 8th.

2018: Hong Chau: Downsizing
2017: Janelle Monae: Hidden Figures (IDK about Greta Gerwig sorry, Monae was in an Oscar movie at least)

Nicole Kidman in Bombshell was probably next in line.

ReplyCopy URLOctober 4, 2020 at 8:30 pm #1203760176It would be her:
My favorite, but I think the AMPAS members just didn’t watch THE FAREWELL, so she wasn’t #6 🙁

It’s quite possible that her, Awkwafina and Original Screenplay all finished 6th.
She won Independent Sprit over JLo and they mostly go where the Oscar buzz leads them, so I think she ultimately finished closer to a nomination.
