I’m watching The Sound Of Music and as we all know, Julie Andrews was nominated for it in Best Actress and lost, for such an iconic role. The thing is, as we all know, she had won the year before for Mary Poppins, another iconic role.
Would she had won for The Sound Of Music if she had lost for Mary Poppins?
And we can discuss anyone, like would Frances Mcdormand win 100% this year if she had lost a few years ago? I think she totally would.

– Viola Davis would have won for The Help.
– Sandra Bullock would have won for Gravity over Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine.
– Cate Blanchett would have won for Carol over Brie Larson in Room.Had Sally Hawkins won for The Shape of Water:
– Frances McDormand would be sweeping this year for Nomadland.

Why do you think this?

It’s similar reason as to why I have Davis and Mulligan in my top 2. I thought Blanchett was phenomenal and absolutely deserving but Bullock delivered an against the type performance in a much bigger film so I think had she not won for The Blind Side she would have won for Gravity. Same with how I think had McDormand lost for 3BB she’d be sweeping this year.

December 21, 2020 at 9:19 pm #1203938489If Jennifer Lawrence wouldn’t have won for Silver Linings Playbook she would have easily won supporting for American Hustle. She even won the Globe and the Bafta that awards season.

Thank God that didn’t happen

Damon or Fassbender would’ve taken it instead. Or if Leo still did The Revanant (not sure he would’ve done all that physically strenuous work if it wasn’t for the Oscar to be honest) then he would’ve won a second.
Redmayne’s first win was already not very popular to begin with, and they weren’t gonna give that film two acting wins, it couldn’t even make the picture lineup, and there were definitely several films ahead of it (Force Awakens, Inside Out, Carol, etc).

No. Damon and Fassbender were definitely ahead of him lol.

No, Blanchett is undeniable in Blue Jasmine. It is one of the best performance of the decade.

For Streep, I think she should have won for Doubt and Winslet should have won for Eternal Sunshine.December 21, 2020 at 11:13 pm #1203938628No. Damon and Fassbender were definitely ahead of him lol.
None of them really had any passion behind their performances though. Damon missed SAG and I highly doubt anyone will ever win an Oscar for playing Steve Jobs. Even Cranston honestly might have had more of a chance if DiCaprio’s narrative wasn’t the primary driver of the race. I would have loved to see Damon swoop in and snag the Oscar, but this race was boring and Redmayne had the Oscar-bait role. It would have been an atrocious win, but it is the AMPAS lol.
I did try to post more of a hot take to have a discussion beyond the typical Streep-Davis-Williams conversation, so I’m all ears for further commentary.

Oh, I was confused because it was written as, “HadMeryl Streep won for Julie and Julia: – Sandra Bullock would have won for Gravity over Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine” but I should’ve deduced your meaning hahaha. I don’t know. Blanchett had career best notices for an incredible performance. She won 2 of the trifecta, CC, GG, BAFTA, SAG, Spirit, and basically all of the fringe awards too. I don’t think there was any beating her.

She would never win BAFTA with that accent.
