It was recently announced that Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to reunite with Paul Thomas Anderson to replace Robert Downey Jr. as the lead in Inherent Vice.
Inherent Vice will be produced by Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures, both of whom are quickly building up serious Oscar credibility with last year’s Zero Dark Thirty and this year’s Foxcatcher and Untitled David O. Russell Project.January 26, 2013 at 11:26 am #88671
I’m glad RDJ is no longer attached. Phoenix needs to make more movies with a good director instead of James Gray and M Night S.January 26, 2013 at 11:41 am #88672
That’s cool, but I was really hoping that RDJ would get to do this. Oh, well…January 26, 2013 at 12:13 pm #88673
hopefully he gets another oscar nominationJanuary 26, 2013 at 1:11 pm #88674
If he doesn’t win this year, I think it might be his year next year.January 26, 2013 at 1:15 pm #88675
It’s currently slated for a 2014 release, and Charlize Theron is supposedly close to signing a deal to star as well.January 26, 2013 at 1:28 pm #88676
This is great news! I’m sure they’ll deliver once more, expectations are high again, they got nothing to prove though, THE MASTER was masterful…January 26, 2013 at 9:09 pm #88677
Anderson to Phoenix: “I could have gotten you an Oscar for The Master, but you spouted off, just as everyone had forgotten about that mockumentary. Do you think you could keep a lid on it this time and let me get this for you?”January 26, 2013 at 11:40 pm #88678
I don’t think the voters will want to even nominate him again after his curmudgeony behaviour, even though he apologized and very begrudgingly drags himself to these awards shows. Maybe he will get a nomination, but I’m not buying it.
However, I think this is the film Anderson wins Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for. The fella is one of the greatest working directors and he doesn’t have an Oscar and people like Ron Howard and Robert Zemeckis have won Best Director.May 16, 2013 at 6:02 pm #88679
Lots and lots of casting developments today, including Owen Wilson (trying to pull a Bradley Cooper?), Martin Short, Jena Malone and notably Reese Witherspoon, reuniting with Joaquin Phoenix, which likely means Theron is out. Benicio del Toro is also involved.May 16, 2013 at 6:13 pm #88680
PTA finally will be able to work with Witherspoon. Yay!May 16, 2013 at 9:09 pm #88683
Interesting news. I’m liking how the ensemble is coming together, including Owen Wilson, who has surprised me more than once with, how good he really is.
Fingers crossed for Joaquin. Love him since To Die For.May 16, 2013 at 9:23 pm #88684
Sorry, but I think Robert Zemeckis is one of the most talented directors of his time. He is way better than Ron Howard. He makes big-canvas, wide audience films (very similar to James Cameron) but still like Cameron is a consummate artist and a visionary director.
