In recent years foreign directors are getting most of the awards in the Best Director category in oscars. This year also that can happen again. So I have made a list of some talented directors from around the globe. So, what your views about that.
1. Xavier Dolan (Canada)

2. Jacques Audiard (France)
3. Hou Hsiao-Hsien (Taiwan)
4. Pablo Trapero (Argentina)
5. Jia Zhangke (China)
6. Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Turkey)
7. Hirokazu Kore-eda (Japan)
8. Cristian Mungiu (Romania)
9. Jafar Panahi (Iran)
10. Anurag Kashyap (India)
11. Ernst Wilhelm Wim Wenders (Germany)
12. Brillante Mendoza (Philippines)
13. Nanni Moretti (Italy)
14. Carlos Reygadas Castillo (Mexico)
15. Park Chan-wook (South Korea)January 7, 2018 at 2:03 am #1202458532Your list is decent (although lacking in female directors) but that first name simply doesn’t belong there. He’s a total hack.
I would add Christian Petzold and Martel

I know a few things about his next film that I can’t share but it’s far from something the Academy (and that conservative branch) would ever dream about embracing

You didn’t like Mommy? I thought that was very acclaimed? Overrated, you think? Why don’t you like his movies?
I used to be a convinced Dolan fan, but I’m realizing I’ve been overrating him for a long time. I still think he’s talented, though. Knowing some of Gus’ tastes and opinions, I had no doubts he wouldn’t like him, lol.

Starting to know some of your tastes too, I think you might not like him either. He’s technically gifted, but sometimes his obsession for stylisation ruins the other aspects of the movie, making it seem and sound quite senseless. I would still affirm that Laurence, Anyways is a great film, though. And Mommy, while not deserving of that acclaim, still was a good film.January 7, 2018 at 9:51 am #1202458831Apichatpong Weerasethakul
Claire Denis
Leos Caraxand I echo Jafar Panahi…I don’t understand how This is Not a Film got so far to make the Documentary shortlist but still not have gotten nominated.

He can’t even win prizes at Cannes let alone the Oscars lol But boy do I love what this man can do.
