Now that Birdman has officially taken it’s frontrunner status away for both BP and BD, and doesn’t seem to be a strong contender for either original screenplay and editing (award which Whiplash or Sniper have great chances to take home), is really Patricia Arquette going to be the sole recognition for Boyhood at the Oscars, after having being the perceived favorite to win big there for so long and having won 3 of the main 4 televised awards (which yes, are not the guilds that have more predictive power, but nonetheless, are still significant)?

Has a perceived early frontrunner crashed this badly in the end?
I don’t remember any other year in recent memory this has happened, at least no to this extent. At least former early favorites that failed to translate their initial love and recognition into a BP win at the Oscars, managed to still have solid performances anyway:

    – The Social Network with Adapted Screenplay, Editing and Score
    – Brokeback Mountain with Directing, Adapted Screenplay and Score
    – Saving Private Ryan with Directing, Editing, Cinematography and both sound awards.

But now Boyhood seems to be the first that wins big at the main 3 and is going to finish it’s run with a kind of, consolation price in the form of Arquette…

Another Boyhood thread… If only the film itself was as eventful as it is around here.

I think Boyhood is vulnerable to lose Best Picture, and I’ve always had it ranked in third in Original Screenplay. But I see it being a complete lock for Director. Even when Saving Private Ryan and Brokeback Mountain surprisingly lost Best Picture, they still won Best Director. The only real shock to happen there has been Tom Hooper for The King’s Speech, which should have never happened. Richard Linklater and Patricia Arquette are guarantees that Boyhood will get at least two major Oscars.

Alright I have Boyhood winning BP. Alejandro winning director and that’s it. I switched to Birdman on Sunday being extremely confident. I think Birdman is not an oscar movie. Neither is Boyhood but the BAFTA win I think might have just gave Boyhood the extra push. Gosh it’s so unpredictable!

But Spielberg, Lee & Hooper all won the DGA (the most accurate precursor in the last half-century-plus).  Linklater didn’t.  I’m betting he’s done.

I think what BOYHOOD still has to its advantage for Best Picture is the preferential ballot.  I don’t think it’s as polarizing a film as BIRDMAN so may squeak out a victory from the second and third-place votes.

But I still think the most it can win is 3, and even that will be tough.  Arquette could be the film’s sole winner,

Not giving up on Boyhood at all, but to answer the question, L.A. Confidential won lots of critics’ prizes, but only supporting actress and screenplay, I think, against Titanic.

I don’t get why no is thinking it could win in original screenplay, Linklater directed and wrote it for 12 years he should get it in either writing or directing and writing was the strongest factor of “Boyhood” I saw “Grand Budapest Hotel” and didn’t get the love also I think that one should be in adapted.

Right.  But Birdman is no Titanic, which was a b.o. and weepie collossal.  And L.A. Confidential didn’t win The Golden Globes.

Please do not encourage this garbage and non-sense to go on.  This is actually a pretty great web-site which does not need these antics or behavior.  So please stop.
