Is it fair that IMDB has degraded the Golden Globe Awards to the level of a Teen Choice mention on their site?

This is not a forum for defending the Golden Globe Awards. We’ve heard and seen what needs to be, everyone has an opinion on the scandals. Nor do I care if the award ceremony will not be able to return after 78 years.

Nonetheless, the impact of the award over the past decades, in terms of the status of actors, is unquestionable. And I’m a bit sad for those actors who are being deprived of their status by the public cancellation of the Golden Globe Awards. It was always seen as the second most important prize in film and studios often mentioned “Golden Globe nominee” or “Golden Globe winner” in film trailers that gave a special status to those actors involved.

Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, Ana de Armas and Awkwafina are no longer Golden Globe nominated/winner actresses per their main status according to IMDB.

The same goes for others such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Jacqueline Bisset, Ewan McGregor, Hong Chau, Robin Wright, Shailene Woodley, Emily Blunt or Donald Sutherland.

Plenty of TV stars are deprived from their main status of winners/nominees including Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, S. Epatha Merkerson, Nicolette Sheridan, Mariska Hargitay, André Braugher, Maura Tierney, Alexander Skarsgaard, Darren Criss, Sarah Paulson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jane Lynch, Matthew Rhys, Chris Colfer, Chris Noth, Kim Cattrall, Marg Helgenberger, Gina Rodriguez, Constance Wu…etc.

    Nah, no one cares.
Lots of people think that the Globes should have been abolished decades earlier.

Not everyone is like Streep or McDormand. Some get one GG mention in their entire career.

Right if it ain’t BAFTA, SAG, or Oscars it doesn’t matter. No one should flex about a golden globe award.

    Those could go next.

While it’s a useful reference point, I doubt many actually base their actor appreciation on an IMDb page…

If only the Globes hadn’t been so corrupt, part of me will really miss them this year; splitting the Comedy/Drama awards was a big selling point and spreads the wealth when it comes to appreciating the art. It would have been so interesting to see potentially all the nominees this year in the Comedy/Musical categories from actual musicals! Has this ever happened before?

    FYC:

Swinton, Weerasethakul Memoria, (Best Actress, Director)
Efira, Rampling, Wilson Benedetta (Best Actress, Supporting Actress/Actor)
    Rapace Lamb (Best Actress)
Stewart, Hawkins, Spall Spencer (Best Actress, Supporting Actress/Actor)

The most interesting one is Tom Cruise. Cruise returned all of his Golden Globes. Tom Cruise is, probably, the most famous movie star of all time BUT he won very little awards in his life. So, I suppose Tom Cruise really doesn’t give a fuck about awards because he didn’t give a fuck about his Golden Globes wins

I just think it’s an interesting theory to think about. At one point all awards could go down the toilet, taking their X years history with them. I mean as an awards geek myself, I’d hate that. I think people don’t realize that this GG thing could be just one of the first one to go.

Yeah but he remains 3-time Oscar nominee Tom Cruise which is his main title. For some people it was ‘Golden Globe nominee’.

They are still using golden globes in trailers and marketing materials. Annette is an Amazon movie and they marketed Simon Helberg as a “golden globe nominee” in its trailer. Golden globes are far too famous to just disappear completely. More people know about the globes than any show but the Oscars.

Brando refused his Oscar but he is still considered a 2-time Oscar winner because he is. Tom Cruise returning his globes is just symbolic it doesn’t mean he is not a globe winner anymore.

Downgraded isn’t the same thing as eliminated. You might have to search a bit harder for Donald Sutherland’s Globes nominations and wins, for example, but they’re still there. In fact, the Globes citations still lead many awards pages on mobile. It’s the main site that’s done so much revamping, and not all to the betterment of the user experience, like adding annoying paywalls to certain content. I’m curious if the Globes material will be promoted again if/when they revamp themselves and get their racist shit together, or is that ship sailed for good? I’m guessing the former.

I don’t think it was ever fair to elevate them to a similar sphere as Oscars or BAFTAs, and above guild prizes voted on by actual industry professionals. If it were me more of those would be elevated (and maybe festival prizes from Berlin/Cannes/Venice), but apart from having a longer history the Globes at the end of the day don’t mean much more than the New Mexico Film Critics Awards do, they just happen to have a bigger budget for parties/booze/bribery/etc.
