Joe Alwyn is more than Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, guys.
After achieving every young actor’s dream – getting cast in a lead role of an ambitious film (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk) with an Academy Award-winning director (Ang Lee), right after he graduated, he even seemed like an Oscar hopeful for a second there, before the film was released to mediocre reviews, and eventually bombing at the Box Office. This year, the young actor might turn things around though; selective with his projects, he has supporting roles in three films that have the potential to be nominated for the grand prize at the Academy Awards: the period pieces The Favourite and Mary, Queen Of Scots, as well as the gay-themed drama Boy Erased. While the former is the only one currently in one of the top 10 positions in the Prediction Center, all three films could make an impact and end up nominated for Best Picture, provided they campaign well and have a strong showing in the all-important precursors.
If al three films end up nominated for Best Picture, he will become the youngest to achieve that, at age 27 (Current record-holder Claudette Colbert did this at age 31.) and he will become the second actor after Michael Stuhlbarg that is not nominated for an acting prize the same year. (This one is a given, he does not have the screen time or the flashy role to get a nomination.)
What are your thoughts in this? Do you think it is going to happen? If it doesn’t happen this year, do you think that we will see a Stuhlbarg situation (three films nominated for Best Picture without an accompanying acting nomination) soon?

I loved your response to this thread, considering the fact that you started the thread on Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk!
