The test for the post will be PGA tomorrow because it’s the first guild we’ve had where the voting period started considerably after The Post landed (December 14. WGA was December 5- not an excuse by any means but could be part of why it didn’t make it if a significant % voted early). Same goes for BAFTA where voting opened on December 15 and The Post should also have an advantage there compared to some others because it isn’t releasing late enough to get damaged like Shape of Water, Lady Bird and I, Tonya are by releasing in February. Plus BAFTA went nuts for Bridge of Spies more than anyone so if they don’t like it we will really know.

I want it to happen so badly but she like always will be nominated. They cannot resist nominating that hypocritical cunt. Never bet against her. Never.

How is Meryl Streep hypocritical? Does this have something to do with Weinstein?

I think she’s unlikely to be snubbed.

Bear in mind that 12/20 of Streep’s nominations are for films that scored 3 or fewer nominations, including her 5 most recent nominations.

Even if The Post ends up completely tanking on nomination morning, she’ll probably still be in.

Obviously, The Post missing at SAG and now the WGA doesn’t look good. However, I think that Meryl is still in. The Academy obviously loves her and she gives a great performance in The Post. Honestly, it may be her performance in quite some time.

Given that her recent nominated performances were “August Osage (Ham Sausage) County”, “into the Woods”and “Florence Foster Jenkins” that would not be difficult. Problem is she has gotten in so many times at the expense of more deserving performances that when she does deserve a nom people are just sick of her being nominated

Interestingly The Post and Munich had similar release dates and trailer dropping the same day

both got shut out at SAG/WGA

both got an ACE – nomination

Munich got shut out of PGA and BAFTA as well.

But really Streep hasn’t been in a bp contender since 1985 so she’s pulled through at least 10 times now and gotten in regardless lol so I don’t see how this is any different

She was in BP nominee The Hours at the 75th Academy Awards held in 2003.

Um… yes! She knew about him for years. She even warned her daughters to never stay alone in the room with him. How do I know it? Mamie and I have mutual friends.

She admitted she heard the rumors, though. People made references to his behavior on many shows, including the Oscars, so even people from outside the industry could hear the gossip. Sadly, a lot of men in powerful positions in all industries are known to be abusive. Of course, I’m not saying it’s true for every one of them and obviously not everyone goes as far as to rape people, but sadly I’d always be wary/warn my daughters if I/they were to deal with a man in power like HW. So I’m not surprised she warned them against staying in one room with HW or other people of his type.

What Streep said is that “You think you know everything about everybody. So much gossip. You don’t know anything. People are so inscrutable on a certain level.” and that she wasn’t aware he actually forced himself on these women against their will and raped them. To be honest, you can’t really go the police without the actual proof (and HW paid to hide it for so many years) or on someone’s behalf if they don’t want to make the story public themselves. I don’t really see what she could have done without it. Fortunately, times are changing and finally these women felt they could come out with their stories and I think we’re heading in the right direction.

When it comes to the nominations, it’s hard to imagine Streep being snubbed for The Post if she managed to score nominations for Into the Woods (I know it was supporting but still) or Florence Foster Jenkins. Of course, this year is really competitive and it may seem like her chances kind of depend on how well The Post does because it’s so relevant and people expected it to be one of the major contenders even before it started filming. I guess we have to wait and see what happens on Sunday first.

I think she shouldn’t. Behind Kate Winslet, hers is the second best female performance of the year and the Academy just needs to give her very deserved 4th statuette.

As a famous singer said, "ain't nobody gonna Thatcher, Thatcher, Thatcher!"

I think she’ll make it, but her performance really wasn’t anything special. The Post also is a pretty problematic, phony film which turns Streep’s character into some confused rich lady instead of a strong woman. It wouldn’t surprise me if she gets snubbed or she gets in, but the film underperforms on Oscar Nominations Morning.

Now, is everyone done talking about this possible snub? This is her first nomination along side her film being in Best Picture. Anything can happen. 3Bs failed to get a directing nomination so except vote splitting to go far for McDormand and Hawkins(her films has tons of noms)
