La ciociara (Two Women) was a masterpiece. This film won Sophia Loren her Oscar for Best Actress making her the first to win one for a foreign language performance.

The first one that comes to mind is Pane e tulipani (also known as Bread and Tulips). It was a wonderful movie.

Masterpieces! We actually even study them at school. Nowadays Italy’s movie industry is more focused on comedy stuff, but there are still some pretty good drama pieces. I can share a few if you are interested!

Amazing what she could do with pocket change and a huge rebellious streak.

After a quick filtering on Letterboxd (only feature films):

    The Life Ahead (2020)
    Bad Tales (2020)
    Pinocchio (2020)
    Life Is Beautiful (1997)
    The Postman (1994)

    When Women Had Tails (1970)
    Red Desert (1964)
