Not everyone that is accused is guilty. I am not saying he is innocent, but right now, we just have his word vs her word.

The percentage of false sexual assault/harassment reports is tiny. The greater problem is that incidents aren’t reported to the police due to the stigma around sexual assault and imbalanced power dynamics between victim/offender.

The more accusers these people have, the greater the chance that they’re guilty.

Enough came out about Weinstein, Spacey, and Judge Roy Moore to convince me of the accusations, both their credibility and their severity. In particular, those actions seemed worthy of public discussion. Among other things, Weinstein hurt the careers of Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd, who deserved for this transgression against them to be made public. Mr. Spacey’s behavior was ongoing, and nothing but public shaming was likely to stop it. Judge Roy Moore ran for public office and held himself up as a moral paragon (very weird version of morality, too). Mel Gibson made his problems public by his behavior toward a police officer on a DUI stop. But just because people are public figures, I don’t feel that means that I need to know about their private lives. I don’t care how many times Gary Oldman has been divorced; it’s just none of my business. Mr. Franco’s behavior seems pretty slimy, but it doesn’t seem to be rape (might be statutory, but not full-on rape.) As such, sure, he probably would be wise to keep his face out of the limelight for awhile. Would I still vote for him for Best Actor this year if I had the chance? Yes, I think he gave the best performance.

Pete Hammond: “Most voters I talked to had already cast their ballots by midweek, rather than waiting until the last minute to send them in”.

I hope Day-Lewis gets nomination, it’s his last role. Though he didn’t get SAG nom, but people without SAG nom got Oscar nominations in the past.

    Glenn Whipp:

“Can I change my vote?” That was the question several motion picture academy members were asking after five women accused actor James Franco […] according to several awards season consultants, the heaviest voting days are the first and the last. […] The Times found most inclined to distance themselves from Franco to avoid an awkward situation on the night of the Oscars.

Assuming they couldn’t change it, I assume he’s in. I do wonder if the Academy will make any kind of statement if he’s nominated, or if they’ll just kind of let it go and not mention it.
